Avatar Review

Just got back from watching Avatar. And yes, I watched it in 3D. I felt the best way to watch this movie was to view it the way that James Cameron made it to be viewed, which was in 3D. Was it worth it, YES. Even if you don't see it in 3D, is it still a good movie, absolutely. It's amazing to think how much 3D technology has changed in the last while. I still remember going to see Spy Kids 3D back in 2003, I really didn't care for it, and the 3D effect was incredibly annoying to watch, not easy to focus, for 3D glasses, we were given these red and blue glasses that we would wear, difficult to watch. In 2007, I went to go see The Nightmare Before Christmas in 3D, it was originally made back in 1993, but they converted it for 3D, and it wasn't super amazing, but it was still good to watch, but also I really enjoyed the movie. They have done many movies in 3D this year, some of the ones I saw were Up, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, and Christmas Carol. The thing that makes 3D good is that it makes everything look more real. This movie was totally one of those where everything looked real, and was totally a great experience. The only drawback to the 3D, especially if you can't always handle watching it, is that it is a long movie and having glasses on for that long can be hard, and trying to adjust afterwards can be a little interesting. But it was worth it, and I would love to watch it in 3D again, and I totally want to watch it again in either 3D or 2D. The performances were great, I really like Sam Worthington, I think he is a really good actor, Zoe Saldana was superb (she has been in Star Trek, Pirates of the Caribbean 1, Guess Who), Sigourney Weaver was also great, as well as everyone else. I highly recommend this movie, and this is one of those that you should see on the big screen.

In other news, there have been a handful of trailers that have come out this week. There is one for Iron Man 2, Alice In Wonderland, Shrek 4, and Clash of the Titans. I am looking forward to next year, should be great. I am excited for Iron Man 2.

Invictus Review

Sorry I haven't updated for a while, I have been getting through finals and the end of the semester. Well, because I finished all of my finals tonight, I decided to celebrate and go see Invictus. It was a really good movie. Morgan Freeman plays a recently elected president in South Africa and he is trying to help build the nation up, and he finds the rugby team that represents South Africa is one way to help bring the nation together. Everyone gives really good performances, including Morgan Freeman. In fact, he has received a Golden Globe nomination for his performance. I highly recommend the movie. Also, if you want to see the list of the Golden Globe nominations, click here.

Another movie that I recommend is Fantastic Mr. Fox. It is a very different movie than what we normally watch, but I found the movie to be very enjoyable. If you like stop motion animation, or are looking for something that different, then you will enjoy this movie. Another one I recommend if you enjoyed all of the classic Disney movies like Little Mermaid or Aladdin, is Princess and the Frog. It was a very enjoyable film, and brought back a lot of good memories of the old Disney musical cartoons.

This weekend, we see the release of one movie we have heard about the last few years. I first heard about it back in January 2007, it is Avatar. Of course I have been really more excited for it recently with all the trailers they have been showing. You will be able to find it in either 3D or 2D, for those who can handle the 3D, apparently this is one movie that must be watched in 3D, so I plan to check that out tomorrow. I will let you know what I think when I see it. Another option to consider for it as well, IMAX 3D.

The other movie coming out tomorrow that looks good is Did You Hear About the Morgans. You have some good choices this weekend. This fall and winter have had some pretty solid movies to go see, which is good, and hopefully these next two weekends bring us some more good ones. Sherlock Holmes should be amazing. We will find out. I will also give a review of this year soon.

We are entering December

Well, we have made it past the Thanksgiving holidays, and now we are entering the Christmas season. We had some pretty good movies come out, I got to check out Blindside, which was excellent, if you have not checked it out, then go to the theater and see it. This week, I am going to try to go see Fantastic Mr. Fox.

As far as releases go this weekend, there isn't a whole lot of action, there is Armored, Everybody's Fine, and Brothers, and Up in the Air. Everybody's Fine looks like it might be decent, it has Robert De Niro who plays a father that has all his children cancel their plans to see him for Christmas, so he decides to go visit them. I guess we will see how it does. Next weekend, we see The Princess and the Frog, Invictus, and The Lovely Bones. Fans of classic Disney animation like Aladdin may want to see Princess and the Frog, Invictus looks like it should be a pretty good film, and Lovely Bones looks bizarre but could be good. The following weekend will have Avatar, Did You Hear About the Morgans?, and Nine. Then Christmas weekend we get the sequel to Alvin and the Chipmunks, Sherlock Holmes, It's Complicated, and The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus. There will be plenty to choose from. I am mainly excited for Sherlock Holmes and Avatar.

Also, there will be plenty of Blu-Ray and DVD releases. Terminator Salvation came out today, and also Night at the Museum 2. Next week we will have Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, and to let you know that I looked at the prices on www.bestbuy.com, and I saw that the DVD version with only the movie is $15.99, while the Blu-Ray version is only $16.99, and the Blu-Ray version also comes with a DVD copy of the movie, and also a digital copy. If you have a Blu-Ray player, and you are deciding between the DVD version or the Blu-Ray version of a movie, and the price difference between the two is only a buck, then go for the Blu-Ray version, especially for a price like that. I bought Terminator Salvation today online at bestbuy.com, and the Blu-Ray version was the same price as the DVD version, which was $15.99, so I got the Blu-Ray version. Also next weekend we get Julie and Julia. December 15 we get The Hangover and G-Force. December 22 we will see District 9, All About Steve, and 500 Days of Summer arrive in stores. Then on December 29, Blu-Ray and DVD versions of A Perfect Getaway, 9, and Paranormal Activity will be found on the shelves. Also, keep your eyes on the prices of these movies, you may get lucky and find rather good prices on Blu-Ray versions.

Last note for tonight, did any of you join the Black Friday fun. I did, and I got some pretty good deals. I got Spaceballs and Live Free or Die Hard on Blu-Ray for $8 each, and then Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban and Batman Begins for $13 each. Pretty solid deals, and I also got some other items that morning.

Thanksgiving Approaching

First of all, I saw 2012 this week, and I have to say that it was pretty good. It was the typical disaster movie, you see plenty of stuff get destroyed, and a group of people trying to save the human race. The special effects were really good. My big complaint was that it was a little too long, but luckily they did a pretty good job at pacing it. I recommend checking it out.

Well, Twilight fans (no, I am not one), New Moon is out this weekend. I was working at the midnight premiere last night, and it was rather crazy to see everyone get excited for it. I always find it fun when you have a good series with a lot of fans that are willing to wait in line for hours to get in to watch a movie that starts at midnight. I remember doing that a couple of times many years ago, I went to Star Wars Episode 2: Attack of the Clones, and Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers. I never dressed in costume or anything, but more with Star Wars, it was fun to cheer with everyone at certain parts, like Yoda fighting Count Dooku. I have had a lot of these fun experiences lately by working at the movie theater, like last year we had The Dark Knight, which was fun to see everyone get excited for it. Also this year, I worked the midnight shift of Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, which was also really fun. One of the funny thing to see people do these days when waiting in line for hours is to bring their laptop and watch an older entry in the series, for example last night I saw girls bring their laptop and watch Twilight, the first one. So yeah, midnight showings are actually fun, and I think are worth being a part of if you ever get the chance.

Also this weekend, we get Planet 51 and Blindside. Planet 51 takes the idea of a human landing on an alien world, and meeting all these aliens. Blindside stars Sandra Bullock, and she takes in this big kid from high school who really doesn't have a home and helps him out. That one looks really good. I'll be checking that one out soon. Next weekend we see the release of Old Dogs, which looks like it should be a funny movie.

As well, Star Trek arrived on Blu-Ray this week, and I of course got it. It looks excellent on Blu-Ray, and sounds excellent as well, so anyone with Blu-Ray, buy it on that format. As for Blu-Rays, a lot of them when they are first released are not too expensive to buy, if you get on bestbuy.com, you can see some of them priced at $20, which isn't too bad, so I would say that anyone with Blu-Ray should start buying their new movies on Blu-Ray, now replacing your DVDs with Blu-Rays, that's a decision that is up to you.

A Christmas Carol review

I have seen a few different takes on the classic "A Christmas Carol" by Charles Dickens, a couple of them made for the kids, like Mickey's Christmas Carol, and also Muppets Christmas Carol. There are so many different adaptations of the story, it kind of gets repetitive. I usually see the same story, just with different actors. Well this one, I felt was a little different than the ones I have seen in the past, no, the story is still the same, there are some different techniques used to help bring a different feel to the screen. There are darker elements to this film, which help change the usually familiar Christmas Carol atmosphere in the past. I really enjoyed this movie a lot, and I wasn't super excited to see it, but I was pleasantly surprised by how well done it was. Jim Carrey was great in his role, and the animation was excellent. I highly recommend it, and yeah, maybe it will still be around when Christmas comes, if you really want to wait, but I recommend checking it out when you can.

This coming weekend, we see the release of Roland Emmerich's latest film, "2012". If you are familiar with what this year supposedly means, then you know what to expect from it. The part I worry about is that it seems just a little too long, it's suppose to clock in around 158 minutes, that's over two and a half hours, I am sure the special effects will be good, but we will have to see about the story. The next weekend, I am sure the girls are excited for, Twilight: New Moon, which should do well. Also that weekend is Planet 51, which kind of takes our idea of an alien visiting our planet, but puts a different twist on it, which is one of us visiting an alien world, and them freaking out because we are the "alien". There are other ones this month like Old Dogs, Fantastic Mr. Fox, Ninja Assassin, and Blindside. There are some pretty good movies for the rest of the month.

As well, next month looks like should have some pretty solid releases. Everybody's Fine arrives on December 4, which stars Robert De Niro who plays a man that decides to go visit his family for Christmas when all of them cancel on coming to see him, looks pretty good. Also there will be The Princess and the Frog, which is Disney's latest animated tale, but it is done in the old classical style like Aladdin and The Lion King, that comes December 11. December 18 sees the arrival of James Cameron's newest movie, Avatar. If you haven't seen the newest trailer, follow this link. It is suppose to revolutionize 3D movies, even if that is the case, this movie still looks awesome and I am really pumped to see it, I may even try to go see it on the IMAX screen. Also that day, the movie "Did You Hear About the Morgans?" will arrive, and that looks pretty funny. How about Christmas Day? Well, we will get Sherlock Holmes, which looks really good, it stars Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law. Check out the trailer if you haven't already. We also get Heath Ledger's last film (the one that he was actually working on when he died last year), which is called "The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus". Here is a link to the trailer. Looks rather interesting. These are only some of the big movies coming out, there are some others, and I will keep you updated on what to see.

As for DVD and Blu-Ray, Up came out this week, and next week is Star Trek, which I am excited for. Here is a brief idea of what to look for the rest of this month and next month:

November 17
-Star Trek
-Galaxy Quest (Blu-Ray)
-My Sister's Keeper

November 24
-Angels and Demons
-Four Christmases
-Funny People

December 1
-Terminator Salvation
-Night at the Museum 2
-Mask of Zorro (Blu-Ray)

December 8
-Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince
-Julie and Julia
-Public Enemies
-Lost: Season 5

December 15
-G Force
-The Hangover

December 22
-500 Days of Summer
-All About Steve
-District 9

December 29
-9
-A Perfect Getaway
-Jennifer's Body

Again, these are only some of the movies that are arriving on DVD and Blu-Ray, there are many others, and hopefully there is something on that list that may appeal to you. I will keep you updated on which ones have excellent quality.

It's Christmas Time Again

Well, almost Christmas anyway, we are getting a Christmas movie this Friday. A Christmas Carol arrives in theaters, which stars Jim Carrey, and it's directed by Robert Zemicks who also did The Polar Express a few years ago. It should be a good movie. It is suppose to be released in 3D, but I am sure that you can find some theaters that only have it in 2D if you want.

There are some other movies coming out this weekend, I am sure you probably really haven't noticed them. One is called The Box, which stars Cameron Diaz. Another that looks interesting is The Fourth Kind, it is about alien abduction, it mixes a narrative story with some camcorder footage. Speaking of movies using camcorder footage, Paranormal Activity has made quite a bit of money the last couple of weeks, the amazing part is that it was only made for $15,000, and has made a lot more than that.

As far as Blu-Ray and DVD go, a couple of days ago saw the release of GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra, which was released less than three months ago in theaters. Next week, we will see the release of Up on Blu-Ray and DVD, I recommend getting the Blu-Ray because it also includes a DVD version because when you get a Blu-Ray player soon, you already have a Blu-Ray movie to show off, which is one I have already heard looks great. In two weeks, Star Trek makes it. I am really excited for that one, I have already pre-ordered the Blu-Ray version and can't wait to watch it.

Saw has been beaten

Wow, I don't know how many years a Saw movie has been number one their first weekend at the box office, but this is probably the first time in a while it isn't. Saw was actually beaten by a movie that has been slowly growing, it's called Paranormal Activity. You may have heard something about it, it is like another Blair Witch Project movie. It's about a couple that move into a new home, and the woman fears there has been some unseen thing following her, so the man buys a video camera to catch things that go on at night when they try to sleep. If you check out the trailer, you can get a good idea of why it can be rather creepy. But there you go, you don't need to spend millions of dollars to make a blockbuster, this movie was made for about $15,000.

By the way, I have checked out the Blu-Ray for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. It is very good quality, excellent picture and sound, if you are looking for a particular scene you want to show off on Blu-Ray, I would say the Forest Battle scene. November and December should be exciting for DVD and Blu-Ray releases. Anyone who has an HDTV, time to upgrade to Blu-Ray.

Oh yeah, almost forgot, I saw Where the Wild Things Are this past week. I love the movie. Was it a little different than I was expecting, yes it was, but it was a very good movie in the end, I really loved the story and it hits some rather important points. If you haven't checked it out, I recommend doing so.

Transformers Revenge of the Fallen Blu-Ray

I thought of sharing this little information that I know about. Tomorrow when Transformers 2 arrives on DVD and Blu-Ray, there will be different versions. The big one I want to point out is that there is a Blu-Ray version at Wal-Mart that will include the aspect ratio change for the IMAX sequences in the movie. Like The Dark Knight last year when it hit Blu-Ray, the movie would mainly play in 2.35:1 throughout the movie, then when the IMAX sequences came on, then it would fill the whole HDTV screen. So for the fans of the movie that got a chance to see the movie on the IMAX screen, and want those full sequences, then you know where to go for the movie tomorrow, Wal-Mart. Of course, no matter if you get it at Wal-Mart or Best Buy or what, the picture and sound for the Blu-Ray should be spectacular. I plan to check out the Blu-Ray, so when I do, I will let you know what I think.

Updates

It's been a while since I have written on this blog. Yes, since then I have seen a few movies. I got to see Surrogates, which I highly recommend if you haven't seen it yet. I also have seen The Invention of Lying, which is one I don't recommend, yes there were some moments that were funny, in fact the first 30 minutes, I was laughing a lot, but overall it was a disappointment.

There were a lot of DVD and Blu-Ray releases recently. I got to watch both State of Play and X-Men: Wolverine on Blu-Ray, and they both have excellent picture quality, and both have really good sound quality. Oh yeah, I also recently purchased Labyrinth and The Dark Crystal on Blu-Ray. I watched Labyrinth all the way through, and the picture quality is great for a movie that was released in the 80s, I was really impressed by how it looked, and the sound was also great. Also, I watched about 20 minutes of The Dark Crystal, and the picture looks great as well, and it also sounds good too.

Yesterday, Land of the Lost, Drag Me to Hell, and The Proposal arrived on DVD and Blu-Ray. I recommend checking out The Proposal if you haven't already, a really funny movie. Land of the Lost is worth a rental, I found it to be funny, really stupid, but because it was stupid, it was funny, of course it is a little crude. I haven't seen Drag Me to Hell, I'm not a real fan of horror movies. Next week, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen arrives on DVD and Blu-Ray. I read one review of the Blu-Ray, and the quality is suppose to be amazing for it, so I would recommend at least renting the Blu-Ray if you are looking for really good demo reference quality. I can't wait to see how Star Trek looks on Blu-Ray when it arrives next month.

Sorry for the lack of updates

There has been some stuff go on in the last while, but nothing super exciting. As for the movies that have arrived in theaters this month, it's been decent. Besides 9, I have seen All About Steve and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. All About Steve was actually pretty funny, I won't declare it as the best comedy I have seen, but it certainly isn't the worst, there were parts where I was laughing hard. Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs was also really funny, and was very wacky and crazy, but still enjoyable nonetheless, that is certainly one that would be one to take the whole family to see.

Now, if any of you are Mac users like me, Apple is about to reveal their new iMac line, and with some cool features according to Apple Insider. Maybe we will see a Blu-Ray drive included with the new Macs.

Next week on DVD and Blu-Ray, we will see Monsters Vs. Aliens arrive, I recommend checking that one out, it was pretty good. Also, Wizard of Oz sees it's debut on Blu-Ray, as well as Labyrinth and The Dark Crystal. I am excited for Labyrinth and Dark Crystal, as I think there are really good films. October also continues to see the release of the big summer films.

9 review

As you are now aware, the summer season is officially over. Now we head into the Fall season, in hopes for some good blockbusters coming up. Well, All About Steve came out last weekend, I haven't seen it yet, but it does look funny, and I have had some people say it's good. But I did get to catch 9 this afternoon. This movie has been advertised since Christmas of last year, so we have had 9 months to build hype for this movie, and it came out today, being 9/9/09, obviously no coincidence, but well thought out marketing. I was really impressed with it. The movie is about a group of 9 stitched up little robots who must stop the machines that have destroyed mankind. The visuals were amazing. A unique style to the film. I highly recommend it. Just so you know, that it is a dark movie.

So you know, there is a soundtrack for the movie, and it includes the song that has played on the trailers, which is "Welcome Home" by Coheed and Combria. The rest of it is the score to the movie, which I found enjoyable.

And also, this movie is based on a short that was released 4 years ago. It was also done by Shane Acker, who directed this movie. You can find the short by following this link.

What DVDs are on the way?

Today is a new month, we are done with August and are now in September. And today being a Tuesday, you may wonder what is coming out today on DVD and Blu-Ray. First of all, State of Play arrives, it stars Russell Crowe and Ben Affleck. It was a solid film and I recommend checking it out if you haven't. Also, Heroes Season 3 arrives as well, if you are a fan of the series. Both Gladiator and Braveheart arrive on Blu-Ray for the first time. Earth arrives as well, the Disney film that contains footage of an already great series, Planet Earth.

You may ask what arrives in the next few months. X-Men Wolverine arrives on DVD and Blu-Ray September 15, so you may want to mark your calendars. Monsters Vs. Aliens arrives on September 29, as well that day, The Wizard of Oz arrives on Blu-Ray for the first time as well, and Labyrinth and The Dark Crystal make their Blu-Ray debuts on that day too. So far, that is a lot to look for on that month.

If you want to look for releases that came out this summer. Here is a brief idea of what you can find on Blu-Ray and DVD in the next few months. The Proposal and Land of the Lost arrive on October 13. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen comes out October 20. Disney and Pixar's Up arrives November 10, and Star Trek beams aboard on November 17. There are still plenty that we are waiting for official word, like Angels and Demons, Terminator Salvation, Harry Potter, etc. Also, if you are looking to increase your Blu-Ray collection, Lord of the Rings trilogy arrives November 3, along with Forrest Gump. So yeah, plenty to look forward to.

September 2009 Preview

Well, after this weekend, August is over and that means that we have reached the end of summer. Now the question is, "What can we look forward to next month?" Well, I can give you a few titles that you can look forward to.

-All About Steve - Sandra Bullock plays a stalker who goes after the guy that she thinks is the one. If you haven't seen the trailer yet, look it up, I guarantee you will be laughing. (September 4)

-9 - I have talked about this movie a lot in the last while. It is based on an animated short released years ago. Produced by Tim Burton, this dark animated feature should be a blockbuster when it arrives. Hopefully it doesn't disappoint. (September 9)

-I Can Do Bad All By Myself - Another Tyler Perry movie. The only one I have seen, and I haven't watched it all the way through is Diary of a Mad Black Woman. Anyway, the trailer seems to mix drama with Tyler Perry's comic characters, who I do think are funny, but the mix seemed a little awkward, but it should be a good movie. (September 11)

-Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs - Based on a children's novel, this animated film looks like it should a nice fun movie to take the entire family to. Again, it advertises 3D, but I am sure you can easily find a theater that only has it in 2D if you are not a fan of the 3D. (September 18)

-Love Happens - What is Aaron Eckhart doing after The Dark Knight? Well, he is in this new movie called "Love Happens". Anyone looking for a good romantic drama, I am sure this one should be one. (September 18)

-Surrogates - Bruce Willis in the future where you can stay at home and control these robots called surrogates. Looks like it has a really interesting premise, enough to go and see the movie. (September 25)

-Fame - It's about a school in New York that teaches how to be talented. It is based on a musical that was released in the 1980s. (September 25)

These are just some of the movies that will be released next month, there are some others. It should be a really good month for movies. Fall, here we come.

Sorry for no recent updates

Sorry for the lack of updates. I have seen a couple of really good movies lately though. First of all, I saw 500 Days of Summer. I don't know how many of you have heard of it, it's a small indie film, but it is excellent. The actors are great in their performances, one of them is Joseph Gordon-Levitt, he has been in many things in the past, he was the kid in Angels in the Outfield, he was also in 10 Things I Hate About You, and recently he was in GI Joe. He has done a lot of things, and he is very talented. This is one of those must see movies.

Another one I saw was Ponyo, if you don't know what that is, it is a Hayao Miyazaki film, who is very big in Japan, some of the films he has done are Howl's Moving Castle, Spirited Away, and Princess Mononoke. This is another one of those films I would rank as a classic, it was very well done. Very fun to watch and see how the story unfolds, of course it has the unusual stuff like you see in his other movies, which makes it fun to watch. I highly recommend it.

As the summer wraps, you may wonder what lies ahead, well, coming shortly, there will be a preview for James Cameron's Avatar which comes out in December. I think the trailer should hit the web tomorrow. Also, they will be playing a 16 minute preview for the movie in IMAX this weekend. Also, if you want to know what Christopher Nolan has been up to since The Dark Knight, we should be getting a trailer for his new movie (no, not Batman 3, even though I am sure he is planning to work on that next) which is called Inception. I don't know a whole lot about it, but we will all find out this weekend when the trailer is released. Look for some pretty good trailers this weekend, at least they should be.

Oh yeah, as far as DVD releases go, The Last Starfighter hits it's 25th Anniversary, so a new DVD and a Blu-Ray release arrives in stores, if you haven't watched it in a while, I recommend checking it out.

GI Joe: Rise of Cobra review

I haven't posted a review of the movie on Friday because when I watched the movie I was really tired and I ended up dosing off a few times during it. I can easily say that the movie was entertaining and I think it is a fun movie to watch. Yes, there are some cheesy parts. I understand there has been a lot of bad buzz towards this movie over the past few months, but if you are looking for a fun movie to watch with a lot of action, then I recommend it.

GI Joe was number one this past weekend, it made around $56 million. Pretty good.

Well, with the summer coming to a close, it's time to set our eyes on the fall season. There are a few movies that are coming out in the fall that look like they will be good. 9 is one of them. You can easily view the trailer at Apple Trailers, or you can go to any other video site to find the trailer, but it looks awesome, and I can't wait for it. Another one that looks good is Where the Wild Things Are, which is based on the children's book of the same name. There are other ones I am sure will be worth checking out, but it should be a very nice fall season.

In other news, I am sure you have heard, but John Hughes, who directed movies like Ferris Bueller's Day Off, passed away on Thursday. It's sad to lose talent like him.

Summer coming to a close

Well, we only have one month till the summer season for movies is over. We have some movies coming out that might attract some attention. First of all this week, we have GI Joe. It should be one of those movies that will be fun to watch. I am looking forward to it for that reason. We also have Julie and Julia, and A Perfect Getaway. Next week, there is the release of Ponyo, which is Hayao Miyazaki's latest movie, it will be a limited release, and hopefully it will play in a theater near where I am, hopefully where I work. Also, there is District 9, from the preview, it doesn't look like it will be very big, but I have read part of one review which simply said that it's not what you are expecting at all, that it will blow your mind. I guess we will see when it's released next week.

As for DVD and Blu-Ray today, there are some big releases, like Race to Witch Mountain and The Soloist. I recommend checking out both. And if you are looking for any good Blu-Ray movies to show off or watch, I rented The Bourne Ultimatum, and it was amazing. I highly recommend it.

As far as fall is concerned for movies, there are some that look like they will be good. There is 9, which is done by Tim Burton, and it looks awesome, I can't wait for that. There will also be Where the Wild Things Are, which also looks good, and there are others that could be surprise hits.

Tron Legacy

This just hit the net today, after being showed at Comic Con. If you don't know what Tron is, it is a movie that was released in 1982, it has to do with a computer programmer that is sucked into the computer world and plays games and tries to get out. It is the first movie to use computer animation, and the style of it is incredible. Any sci-fi fans out there, I recommend checking this one out if you never have, it might look a little cheesy, but it has such a unique look to it, it shouldn't be missed. After almost 30 years, they are making a sequel to the 1982 cult classic, it comes out in 2011, and I am excited for it, but I am looking forward to them showing us some of the footage from the movie as it gets closer. As well, they finally settled on a name, "Tron Legacy". For a while, they were debating the title, like Tron 2.o, TR2N, and they even went with Tron, which would have caused confusion I'm sure. Well, I can't wait for more information.

Speaking of classic movies using computers in the 80s, look for the 25th Anniversary of The Last Starfighter on DVD and Blu-Ray August 18. Another movie that has dated effects, but it is still a good movie, and I recommend it. I hope they do a great job on transferring it to high defintion, if it turns out great on Blu-Ray, I will get it.

Harry Potter is gold

Well, if you haven't heard by now, Harry Potter has ranked up some pretty solid numbers this past week. In fact, it smashed one record that The Dark Knight previously held last summer, that is the most ranked during a midnight showing. A total of $22.2 million during the midnight premiere to be exact. After the weekend, it has ranked in about $160 million altogether since it started Wednesday. If you haven't seen it yet, I recommend checking it out. In my opinion, it's one of the best in the series. After watching this recent entry, I am excited to watch the rest of the series again, and I am excited to see the next one.

Speaking of Harry Potter, I picked up two of the movies on Blu-Ray, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, and Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. I watched the Order of the Phoenix, and the picture and sound were amazing. So if you are looking for any good Blu-Rays to add to your collection, the Order of the Phoenix is a very good one. I will be checking out the Goblet of Fire soon and I will let you know what I think.

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince review

I will start off by stating that I am not a Harry Potter fan. For me, I have seen the movies once in theaters, and then I usually don't seem them the whole way through again. However, they have always been fun to watch and I enjoy going and seeing these movies. But none of the movies have made me go, "Man, I can't wait for the next one." Well, after this one ending, I found myself saying that. This one was the probably the darkest Harry Potter movie to date, I could be wrong since I haven't really seen the others ones for a while, but I was a little surprised to see the film go back to a regular PG rating instead of a PG-13, when it didn't at all feel like a regular PG. Nonetheless, it was really great. I found myself enjoying the movie and really eager to see what happened next. Besides it being the darkest Harry Potter, I could also come to the conclusion this is the best Harry Potter film to date. I highly recommend it, and I am sure there are some of you out there that will be going tonight.

In preparation for the new film, I watched the first one with some friends last night, well sort of. We had a little commentary track going along with it from Riff Trax. Riff Trax is a group of three guys that watch certain movies and with them record some funny comments to go along with the film, if you want to see for yourselves, follow the link and you can view samples. It was actually pretty funny.

Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs review

I remember watching the first Ice Age movie years ago. It was not one of those movies that I was dying to see, but I ended up seeing it anyway. I found myself very surprised by how funny it was and the fact that it was very entertaining. I haven't seen it for a long time, and I haven't seen the sequel except for a few minutes. I ended up watching the new one today. As with the first one, there were funny moments and it was pretty entertaining overall. They added a new character, voiced by Simon Pegg, and he was very funny. I recommend checking it out at least once, especially if you enjoy the Ice Age movies.

Well, Harry Potter arrives in theaters in a couple of days, or if you are going to the midnight showing tomorrow night, then you only have a little over 24 hours to go. I will let you know what I think of it. I am not a Harry Potter fan, but I am really excited for this new movie.

Five Days till Harry Potter 6

Well, here we are at another weekend, but probably all of you are holding your money for Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, so more likely you won't care what comes out this weekend. But if you are looking for something, there is I Love You Beth Cooper, and Bruno. I Love You Beth Cooper is a new teen comedy directed by Chris Columbus, who was the director of the first two Harry Potter movies, funny, and he has also directed Home Alone and Adventures in Babysitting. There are other movies that have been released for a while that are worth checking out, like Transformers, which should enjoy possibly it's last week in the number one spot at the box office before Harry Potter knocks it down.

My Sister's Keeper review

Yes, that's right. I have actually sat through dramas in the past, and this is another one I have sat through. I had a few friends and relatives that wanted to see it, so I decided to take them to see it. Wasn't entirely thrilled, and of course I wasn't entirely thrilled either (no surprise) when I left the theater. This is a sad movie. You will either cry, or you will come very close to it. But the question you might ask is, "Is it a good movie?" Yes, it is, it is a very well done movie. The acting was superb, and it had a really good story. Even had some questions that really make you think. I recommend it, mainly for those who are in the mood for a drama. or else you might end up like me, after the movie, you will watch a few episodes of Seinfeld to cheer yourself up.

Well, maybe the girls might have gone to My Sister's Keeper to cry their eyes out, while the guys and Transformers fans went to Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, which hit a litttle over $200 million in it's first five days, impressive. By the way, I have listened to the score for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, and I really enjoyed the score, it's nice to listen to. I mainly recommend it to those who like to collect soundtrack scores, as for the other musical listeners that like rock, the soundtrack is really good. And those who like both, get both, like me.

We are pretty much half way through the summer. Have two more months to go, and it's going too fast. How does the rest of the summer look? Well, there could be surprise hits. This weekend, we have Public Enemies, which stars Johnny Depp and Christian Bale, looks good, and then there is Ice Age 3, I have only seen the first one, and it's been a really long time since I have seen that. This one might be fun to watch, but we will have to see. As well in the month of July, there is Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. I am not a Harry Potter fan, but I have enjoyed the movies, and this one actually looks really good, and it sounds like the reviews are good, even a reviewer at Hollywood.com calls it a possible oscar contender like the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, that's strong, and that could mean we could have a very strong box office maker for a while, but we will see. There isn't anything else really for the month of July, which probably means Harry Potter will dominate the box office for a while. August has at least one possible good box office blockbuster, GI Joe. It looks pretty good, it should be fun to watch for sure.

Recommended Blu-Rays

Well, I have been part of the Blu-Ray family for about half a year. I thought that I would give you all some of my recommendations for the Blu-Ray format, whether you are new, or whether you have had the format for a while.

-The Dark Knight: I don't think this is a big brainer, because I have bragged about this for a long time now, especially when Christmas hit last year. The picture and sound are amazing, especially the picture, which contains sequences that were shot in the IMAX format. This is one that should be added.

-Transformers: Awesome movie, awesome Blu-Ray. Especially with the new movie in theaters now, it would make sense to re-experience the first movie, and what a better way to experience it than in Blu-Ray.

-Pirates of the Caribbean; Curse of the Black Pearl: My older brother recommended this to me when I first entered the Blu-Ray world. I had this one on DVD, but was willing to pick up this one. I was blown away by how amazing the picture was. And of course, the sound is excellent as well.

-Planet Earth: This one will totally blow you away. The picture is absolutely amazing. So much detail, and a great way to experience Earth from home.

-Quantum of Solace: I think this is an amazing sound demo if you are looking for those. The picture is also really good too.

-Pinocchio: A movie that was released 70 years ago, it's not that easy to tell when you watch this movie on Blu-Ray, the picture looks amazing. They did an excellent job of cleaning up the picture.

-Kung Fu Panda: This was a funny animated picture, looks great on Blu-Ray.

There are a lot of great releases on Blu-Ray out there. For those of you that have a Blu-Ray player, what else have you seen on the format that has blown you away?

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen review

We have been waiting for it for a while, and starting tonight at 12:01, it will be open to the whole public. Is it worth to see it? I would have to say yes. It was awesome. This has to be the best movie to come out this summer so far. It has pretty much the same elements from Transformers two summers ago. If you like the first one, you will love this new one. There are more robot fights in this one. And there is some humorous moments, just like in the first one. This is a high recommendation, go see it as soon as you can, even tonight if you still can.

Also today, the soundtracks for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen arrive, yes there are two of them. There is one for the songs that are found in the movie. It is a fun soundtrack to listen to, I like Linkin Park's song "New Divide", it's worth picking up. You can get it at Best Buy for $10. The other soundtrack is the score by Steve Jablonsky, you can hear samples of it on Amazon.com, and it sounds good. I have it coming in today, so I will soon give it a full listen and let you know exactly what I think.

As far as trailers go, look for a couple this week. One is for The Last Airbender, M. Night Shyamalan's latest movie, no this isn't another Sixth Sense with a surprise twist at the end, this is actually based on the Nickelodeon cartoon Avatar: The Last Airbender that started back in 2005 and just finished last summer. The whole series is now being made into a trilogy, and the first movie arrives next summer. It will play in front of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. As well, there is a trailer for Ponyo, that is Hayao Miyazaki's latest animated movie from Japan, it was released there last summer and now is coming to the US on August 14. Also, now available on the net is the latest trailer for GI Joe, which hits theaters August 7. You can check out these trailers as they hit the net on the following two sites:

Yahoo Trailers
Apple.com trailers

Also today, there are some DVDs in store, not too many that stand out, but there is Inkheart if any of you are interested, it's at least worth a rent, it was a fun movie. Check out a local store like Best Buy for the newest releases.

The Proposal review

Are you looking for a movie to see before Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen starts tomorrow at midnight, or maybe for something to see if it really gets too crowded at the theater. Well, I recommend The Proposal. This was one of those movies I wanted to see, because it looked pretty funny. I have to admit, I found it more funny and much more entertaining than I was originally thinking it would be. Ryan Reynolds and Sandra Bullock are great. Highly recommended.

Year One review

The most simple thing to say about Year One....skip it. There were parts that were funny, but I don't think it is worth sitting through 1 hour and forty of your life just to discover those few really funny parts. There were a lot of things in the movie that were really crude, more of it being in the middle of the movie, I don't like it when movies get really crude. Overall, I don't think it is worth anyone's time. I am sure there will be some that will enjoy the movie, I was not one of those. I overall recommendation is to skip it, there are better movies coming out.

New things to report

First of all, the obvious, Ghostbusters has made it to Blu-Ray today. I have picked it up of course, and I got it for $15, a really good deal. While the picture and audio quality may not blow you away and show off your new HDTV, it is a definite improvement over the previous releases. Also, there is a special feature on the rebirth of the Ecto-1 car. There are many other releases out today, so head to your local store to check them out.

Also, another reminder, next week is the release of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. And also in stores, you can purchase two different versions of the soundtrack, one with the rock songs, and another with the score. You can hear samples of the score by following this link. Also, if you have the Blu-Ray version of Transformers and BD-Live feature, you can check out a special sneak peek of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. I haven't seen it yet, but you should try if you get the chance.

This weekend, we see the release of The Proposal and Year One. I will let you know what I think of each when I see them.

Coming up

This weekend won't see a huge amount of new releases. There is The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3, starring Denzel Washington and John Travolta, it is a remake of a film released back in the 70s. As well, there is also the release of Imagine That, starring Eddie Murphy, looks a little better than his last film, Meet Dave.

Next weekend, we see the release of The Proposal, which stars Ryan Reynolds and Sandra Bullock. Sandra Bullock plays Ryan Reynolds boss who is about to be deported back to her home country Canada, but to keep herself from getting deported, she bribes Ryan Reynolds to marry her. Looks really funny. Also, Year One arrives, which stars Jack Black and Michael Cera, back in the stone age. Might be funny.

Also, there are plenty of Blu-Ray and DVD releases arriving on Tuesday. The big one for me, Ghostbusters, and as well as many fans of the franchise out there, I am so excited. There are many other releases as well.

Land of the Lost review

How to best tell you about this new Will Ferrell movie. It is really messed up, one of the cheesiest movies I have seen in a long time, which was obviously done on purpose, but yet because it was done that way, it was very funny. There were many parts in the movie where I just busted out laughing so hard. Even the parts that were so cheesy were so funny. Anyone looking for a stupid movie just to get some laughs, here you go.

What's new

This weekend, we have Land of the Lost arriving in theaters, which stars Will Farrell and it is based off an old TV show. Will it catch a lot of attention? Who knows? I am sure many will go to see Up if anything, or they will be holding their money for Transformers which arrives in theaters in a few weeks. By the way, here is another poster for the movie, which looks really cool:

Speaking of Transformers, I watched the first one a few days ago. If you want to be prepared for the new, I recommend watching the first one again. In fact, if you have a Blu-Ray player, pick it up on Blu-Ray, Transformers is awesome in high definition.

A day before the new Transformers movie arrives, they will be releasing the soundtrack. There are two different versions of the soundtrack, there is one with the rock songs like the new single from Linkin Park called "New Divide", and many others. Plus, there is the score for the movie. I am excited for the soundtrack, the last one was pretty good.

Also, Twilight fans, the trailer for "New Moon" is now on the net. Go to Yahoo Movies and you can see the trailer for yourself. I haven't seen the first yet.

Up review

Looking for something good that the whole family can enjoy. I recommend Up, it is Disney and Pixar's latest offering, and the first time they have used Real 3D, and it was pretty nice. Don't be completely fooled by what the previews have shown, because that is only part of the story that is presented in the movie. It is a very well done story. And as always, the animation is incredible, you can tell the details and everything in an animated picture is improving, it is a joy to watch. Looking for a nice movie to watch this weekend, Up is the pick.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen IMAX poster

As you may or may not know, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen will not only be released in traditional theaters, it will also be released in IMAX theaters as well. There are a few sequences that were filmed with IMAX cameras, just like The Dark Knight. So, of course, here is a recommendation to go for the biggest screen possible. It comes out in a month, I am so excited.

This weekend, two movies make it out to the theaters, Disney and Pixar's Up, and Drag Me to Hell, a horror movie directed by Sam Raimi. I am really excited for Up, it looks great. I love Pixar's movies, I just watched A Bug's Life last night, so funny.

As for DVDs this week, I don't know of many great releases to jump up and down for just yet. If you like anime, particularly Ghost in the Shell, the director of the first movie, Mamoru Oshii, has released Sky Crawlers. It looks interesting, I plan to check it out sometime. There is also Forever Strong, which is a football movie if you like those. There are some other releases, like New in Town.

Speaking of DVDs, There is a website called Good Movies Online, which takes popular movies and takes out the sex and nudity, language, and really graphic violence. It is going out of business and they are having a little sale before they are done, so if you want movies without that kind of content, check it out before it's gone, they do a good job editing the movie.

Terminator Salvation review

Yes, I saw Terminator Salvation last night. I was really impressed with the movie. For all of you who don't know, this one takes place after Judgment Day, the year is 2018, and the humans are at war against the machines. It was very well done, Christian Bale was good as John Conner. I really liked Sam Worthington, he did a great job. And Anton Yelchin was also great as Kyle Reese. Kyle Reese is the guy that goes back in time in the first movie to protect Sarah Conner from the Terminator, the one where Arnold is the bad guy. Kyle Reese also becomes the father of John. I highly recommend the movie. Check it out this weekend, it starts tomorrow.

As well, the soundtrack is also available now. Picked it up yesterday, and it is a good soundtrack, the score is done by Danny Elfman. It also contains a song by Alice in Chains called Rooster.
Speaking of soundtracks, Linkin Park's new song "New Divide" for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is now available to listen. It is actually good, the soundtrack for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen comes out June 23, and it looks like they are selling a few different versions of the soundtrack, one that has the rock songs, one that has the score, and hopefully there is one that has both.Twilight fans, you want the new poster, here you go, for New Moon. It comes out in November, I will notify you when the trailer hits the net.

As for DVD and Blu-Ray releases, there were a few. Valkyrie is now available, I will be watching that on Blu-Ray soon, as I rented that from Netflix. As well, fans of the show 24, the seventh season is now available for purchase. A Bugs Life is also now avaible for Blu-Ray. There are a bunch of other good releases.

Angels and Demons review

I saw Angels & Demons last night very late, and I found it to be very good. And a couple of days before that, I saw The Davin chi Code for the first time, which was also good. I found this new one to be very good. Definitely worth your time, even if you haven't seen The Davin chi Code. That is the big recommendation this weekend. I don't care for Tom Hanks, but I still thought he did a good job, as well as the rest of the cast.

Also, if you haven't seen Star Trek yet, go check it out, it is actually a really good movie, just so you know, I am not a Star Trek fan, but I still enjoyed it. And Wolverine is also a good movie to check out.

Next week, we see Terminator Salvation hit the big screen. Terminator fans, catch up on the old movies and be ready for the new one. As well, the sequel to The Night at the Museum arrives as well. And for those who are into spoof comedies, Dance Flick arrives too.

As well, look for Linkin Park's new song "New Divide" on the radio and iTunes on May 18. This song is part of the soundtrack for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.

Star Trek review

Star Trek starts tomorrow. As always, I get to see these movies a day before they are released. I am sure the big fans are going to catch the early screening tonight, that is the first chance that the public will have to catch the movie. I am not a Star Trek fan at all. I never watched the TV series, I never even watched the old movies. The only one I saw was Star Trek Insurrection. A lot of the Star Trek stuff is foreign, so I can't tell how close they worked with the material. But I can say this, I actually really enjoyed this movie, it was a lot of fun to watch. So, for any of you that don't care about the original Star Trek stuff, don't worry, I didn't care about Star Trek before, and I probably won't go out of my way now to see the original stuff, but I still highly recommend.

X-Men Wolverine Review

First of all, I am now back working at the movie theater again. So I can see the movies before they open. I saw X-Men Wolverine Wednesday night, and I have to say I enjoyed it. I didn't know exactly what to expect, because some of the early reviews weren't very glamorous. I still had hope that it would be better than what was being said. In my opinion, I think it was better than people were saying. I thought there were some things they could have changed a bit and improved, but overall it was a good movie. I enjoyed the back story of Wolverine, and thought Hugh Jackman, as always, did a great job as Wolverine. So, if you are looking for a good movie to start the summer season off with, here you go.

Also, before the movie, I believe they will be showing the new Transformers Revenge of the Fallen trailer, which is also now on the internet. Click here to see the trailer. It looks amazing. I am now even more pumped to see the movie. If you can, on the trailer page, click to watch an HD version of the trailer, it looks awesome.

This summer looks like it will be awesome.

The Soloist Review

I caught The Soloist this weekend. I was very impressed with it. It was originally supposed to be released in November, but for some reason, they delayed it until now. However, it was worth it. Robert Downey Jr. was great, and Jamie Foxx was superb. I really loved the story. If you don't know what it is about, Robert Downey Jr. plays Steve Lopez, a writer for the LA Times, who finds a homeless man who can play the violin, his name is Nathaniel Ayers (Jamie Foxx), and Steve tries to help him. Also with Nathaniel Ayers, he has schizophrania. I highly recommend it.

Also last week, I saw 17 Again. To let you all know, I am not a fan of Zac Efron, but I did find this movie pretty good. There were very funny moments, especially with one of the characters. It also had a good story behind it. I recommend checking it out.

Well, this weekend, the summer movie season starts. X-Men Origins Wolverine comes out, I am so pumped.

Official, Terminator Salvation PG-13

Okay, I am sure some of you have heard the rumor for a long time that the new Terminator movie will be PG-13, well, it's is no longer a rumor. You can go on the website and see the rating for yourself. I am really excited for it. It looks like it will be amazing. I saw the first and second movie recently. I think Terminator 2 is such a great movie. Highly Recommended. There is so much to be excited for this summer. I thought I would let you know for any of you that are interested.

State of Play review

Last night, I was able to see State of Play. I thought it was very well done. Performances were very good. There were also plenty of twists where you had to keep focus on what was going on. If you haven't heard of it, it stars Russell Crowe and Ben Affleck. Russell Crowe is part of a newspaper company that works on a story that involves a murder that has taken place. I won't go into too much detail, but I highly recommend it.

Also, I don't know if any of you have heard of a DVD player from ClearPlay. ClearPlay is a company that makes "filters" for a DVD player, so it is programmed for specific movies with high sexual content or high foul language, or very bloody violence, and it knows when to skip them. So I have been using the DVD player from ClearPlay, and rented a few movies to have the offensive content skipped. I have seen Wanted, Slumdog Millionaire, How to Lose Friends and Alienate People, and The Terminator, with this device. I will be watching Terminator 2 soon. But it is amazing what technology can do these days.

Much to look forward to

Sorry I haven't written on this blog for a long time. I have been busy finishing college. I graduated a couple of days ago, and will be going to Brigham Young University this coming fall.

If you didn't get it last week, the Batman 3 casting news was an April fools joke. Some of the stuff was based off rumors that have been circulating on the net, definitely not Zach Efron or Brittany Spears though. I am sure there were a bunch of good April Fools jokes based on Batman 3. I don't know when it will happen, but hopefully Chris Nolan does something just as great as he did with The Dark Knight, he is a great director. His next movie is called Inception, which stars Leonardo DiCaprio.

Well, we have some movies out this weekend, however nothing that seems too exciting. Dragonball Evolution, which looks like not a whole lot of effort went into the adaptation of the very popular anime TV series. I thought the TV show was fun when it was on. I wonder why they couldn't put a little more effort into the movie.

However, if you haven't checked out Monsters vs Aliens, do so, I checked it out a couple of weeks ago in 3D, and it is very funny. Definetely recommended.

There is plenty of good movies coming out to theaters in the next couple of months. X-Men Wolverine will be awesome, I am excited for that, I just watched all of the previous movies recently, and I am now pumped. There is also Star Trek, Terminator Salvation, Night at the Museum 2, and Up, and also Angels and Demons, which looks rather interesting. There are also a bunch of good releases on Blu-Ray in the coming months. I am really excited. I will planning to come up with a little schedule for the DVDs and Blu-Rays that will be arriving in the next few months.

As well, Happy Easter, and remember the reason for celebrating Easter, and that it's not about a bunny delivering chocolate.

Batman 3 casting news

We now know who will be playing who in the new Batman movie released two years from. After The Dark Knight hit theaters last summer, everyone has been waiting to find out what will happen in the next one. The new movie will be entitled "The Caped Crusader". Christopher Nolan will be returning to the director's chair, and Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, and Morgan Freeman will be returning to their respected roles. The new villians will be The Riddler, Catwoman, and The Penguin. The Riddler will be played by Nicolas Cage, who has been talking about being in the new Batman movie recently, well this must be his role. Catwoman will be played by Brittany Spears, who has been looking for a way to reboot her career after her many mistakes. Phillip Seymour Hoffman will be playing the Penguin. As well, Zac Efron will be joining the cast as Robin. So there you go, now we know the cast, whether we like it or not. And in other news, McG has agreed to do a sequel to the biggest blockbuster of all time, Titanic. And also, APRIL FOOLS DAY!

Fast and Furious is making it's way to the big screen this weekend, there were plenty of pretty good releases on DVD and Blu-Ray yesterday. I hope you have a great day.

Monster Weekend

As you know, Monsters Vs Aliens has made it to theaters this weekend. I haven't seen it yet, but it looks like it should be a solid offering this weekend. It should be offered in 3D, you should check your local theaters to see if they have it in Real D 3D, it should be neat. That should get a large amount of returns this weekend. Hopefully you will get a chance to see it, and there are also a bunch of other good movies to see as well.

As for DVD and Blu-Ray, Quantum of Solace was released this week. I got to view quite a bit of it on Blu-Ray, and it is excellent quality, especially the sound, it definitely packs a punch. The picture is also great as well. That is highly recommended.

Race to Witch Mountain review

I just got out of seeing the movie "Race to Witch Mountain". I have to admit that I actually really enjoyed, and it was much better than I was anticipating. So, for a recommendation for this weekend, that is one to see. Dwayne Johnson, aka The Rock, was great, as well as the rest of the other cast. Highly Recommended.

There are some pretty good releases this weekend, there is Knowing with Nicolas Cage, and then Duplicity with Clive Owen and Julia Roberts. And there are some previous releases as well. If you haven't seen Taken yet, go see it. This is a pretty solid weekend for movies.

Summer 2009 Preview

We are a month and a half till the summer movie season officially starts, so I thought now would be a good time to give you an idea on some of the big movies that will be arriving this summer.

X-Men Wolverine Origins – Hugh Jackman reprises his famous comic book role, but this time we look at how he became Wolverine. We get a look at a lot of the famous X-Men characters, including Gambit. This one should draw a lot of attention when it is released.

Star Trek – Looks like a reboot of the famous franchise. I am not a trekkie fan at all, but with J.J. Abrams directing, and the trailers looking pretty cool, I may end up checking this one out.

Terminator Salvation – The year is 2018 and the war against the machines has begun. Christian Bale takes on the role of John Conner, and the trailers look amazing, I am really excited to see this. This one is sitting on the stand of becoming either PG-13 or R. And with Watchmen not doing too hot at the box office, they might push for PG-13 now.

Night at the Museim: Battle of the Smithsonian – Much of the cast returns for the sequel of the popular Christmas 2006 offering. The trailer looks pretty funny, and should be full of good laughs again like the first one.

Up – Disney and Pixar bring another one of their precious offerings. This one is about an old man who travels by having his house being lifted up by a bunch of balloons, that sounds like an awesome idea, I want a house like that. All of Pixar’s offerings have been excellent, so this one should be. The recent trailer looks really good.

Land of the Lost – Will Farrell stars in what appears to be another remake of an old TV show. The trailer looks a bit funny and has some neat special effects, it might be a pretty nice summer movie.

The Proposal – Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds team up together in this new romantic comedy. Sandra Bullock plays an executive of a company, she is originally from Canada and will soon be deported back into her country. To stop this from happening, she forces get her employee (Ryan Reynolds) to marry her. Check out the trailer, it looks pretty funny.

The Year One – Harold Ramis’s newest comedy, deals with cavemen, played by Jack Black and Michael Cera (the boy in Juno). It looks pretty funny, and with Jack Black, you should expect a few laughs.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen – The sequel to the 2007 summer blockbuster, Transformers. Judging by the trailers, this one looks like it will be darker than the one released two years ago. As it’s predecessor, this one should be amazing. Also, like The Dark Knight last year, certain sequences were filmed using IMAX cameras. Let the countdown begin till the release date!

Public Enemies – Starring Christian Bale and Johnny Depp, this one looks rather interesting. It has to do with 1930 gangsters.

Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs – I haven’t seen the second part of the movie, but I saw the first one many years ago, and it was funny. This one should be another great movie.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince – What was suppose to be released last Thanksgiving, it was bumped till July. It should be another excellent Harry Potter movie, these are good movies, and I look forward to this new one.

GI Joe – Another movie based on an old toy franchise. I remember playing with these toys when I was little. Only a super bowl TV spot has popped on the net, and that looks great. I am excited.

This looks like to be an exciting summer for movies, can't wait till it officially starts.

New Terminator Salvation poster

Here is another poster for Terminator Salvation that I just found on the net. Hopefully it turns out to be very good. As you might have heard, Race to Witch Mountain was number one at the box office and Watchmen took a pretty good tumble.

As for DVD and Blu-Ray this week, The Princess Bride arrives on Blu-Ray. I think also they have a DVD copy to go with it, so anyone that hasn't owned it before and is planning on getting a Blu-Ray player soon, you can get the Blu-Ray and enjoy the DVD till you get a Blu-Ray player, but I might be wrong, nonetheless The Princess Bride is an excellent film and should not be missed. This coming weekend will be about Twilight, as it arrives on both DVD and Blu-Ray. I am sure Twilight fans will rush to pick this one up at the store. I haven't seen it, so I can't give an opinon about it. Next week we will see Bolt and Quantum of Solace arrive on DVD and Blu-Ray. I am excited for Quantum of Solace on Blu-Ray. Also finishing off this month the following week, Seven Pounds and Slumdog Millionaire arrive. I highly recommend Seven Pounds.

As for theaters this weekend, Knowing arrives, it stars Nicolas Cage, and looks rather interesting. They discover a document in a time capsule and it has a bunch of numbers that predict many natural disasters and how many will die. As well, Duplicity arrives too, it looks kind of funny and may be decent.

Ghost Town Review

I ended up watching Ghost Town a few nights ago. I found it to be pretty funny, and an overall good movie. I wouldn't place it on my favorite movie list of 2008, but I found it good enough to certainly check out. If you don't know the story, it is about a dentist who dies during a surgery for a few minutes and when he comes back, he can see and hear ghosts, and they annoy him, which is rather funny. I recommend it.

As well, I bought Pinocchio on Blu-Ray two days ago, and just checked it out, the picture is absolutely stunning. For a movie that is 70 years old, it was breathtaking to see how clear and stunning the picture looked in high definition. Absolutely recommended.

New this week

There are some new DVDs arriving in store tomorrow. First of all, Pinocchio arrives on DVD and Blu-Ray. Walt Disney's second animated feature arrives with digitally restored picture and sound, this will be the best that Pinocchio has ever looked, I have read some reviews on the Blu-Ray version of Pinocchio and all reviewers have agreed that it looks absolutely amazing, especially for a 70 year old film. There are also plenty of extras to go through from what I have heard. Anyway, it is on my must own list tomorrow. I will be buying the Blu-Ray version of course, and once I watch it I will let you know my own opinion. By the way, I have said this before, but I want to notify you all that the Blu-Ray version also comes with a DVD copy of the movie. This is for those who are planning to buy a Blu-Ray player soon, you can buy the Blu-Ray version of the film and that way you still have the DVD version to enjoy until you get the Blu-Ray player, then you can enjoy the movie in high definition without having to rebuy it. So, any of you looking at getting a Blu-Ray player in the near future, get the Blu-Ray version tomorrow. Also tomorrow, Transporter 3 arrives tomorrow on DVD and Blu-Ray. They are all fun movies to watch, so I recommend that fans of the Transporter movies check this one out. Also, the 4 Batman movies arrive on Blu-Ray in a boxed set tomorrow. Howard The Duck also makes it on DVD as well. There are also a bunch of other releases tomorrow, so check them out.

This weekend in theaters, Race to Witch Mountain makes it onto the big screen. It looks rather interesting and may be a fun movie to watch. By the way, I got to check out the new trailer for Pixar's Up which will arrive in theaters May 29, I am excited for it. So far, this looks like it will be a great summer for movies. Anyone that hasn't checked out the new trailers for what is arriving this summer, go find them, there are plenty of really good ones.

More good trailers

I told you about the new trailer for Terminator Salvation a couple of days ago. Well, a few more very good trailers have started to pop up on the horizon. First of all, a new trailer for X-Men Origins Wolverine has just starting coming up, and it looks really good. I bet if you look on youtube.com, you will find the video, the first one in December was awesome, and this one is even more amazing, I am excited for it. They have also put up a new one for Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. Expect to see a bunch of new trailers for upcoming films this summer, to help everyone get excited for the popular time for movies. Trekkie fans, expect to see a new trailer for the new Star Trek movie soon. Hopefully we will get a new one for Pixar's Up soon, it looks like it could have a lot of great potential. Many other trailers I hope to see soon.

Movies coming out soon!

They just put the new trailer for the movie "Terminator Salvation". I think it has a lot of good potential, I have seen parts of the previous Terminator movies on TV, and this one looks rather good. You can check out the trailer at movies.yahoo.com

Well, this week's DVD and Blu-Ray releases aren't that big, if you enjoyed Beverly Hills Chihuahua, then you might look for that, or if Australia was on your top ten list of last year, then you will find that tomorrow. Oh yeah, comic book fans, a Wonder Woman animated movie is out tomorrow as well. Speaking of animated comic book movies, I watched the kid movie Next Avengers a few nights ago, it wasn't too bad. It isn't something I would buy, but anyone with kids that are into comic book heroes, I would recommend a rental. Anyway, the big Blu-Ray release I am excited for is Pinocchio next week, I think it is a great movie.

As for theatrical releases, I guess that not everyone wanted to see a 3D concert of the Jonas Brothers, but instead wanted to see a crazy lady go to jail. Of course, I am betting this weekend that many will be going to the movie "Watchmen". That is this weekend's big release. For anyone not wanting to see that, there are plenty of other movies coming out this month, there is "Race to Witch Mountain" next weekend, which looks like it could be entertaining, Dwayne Johnson fans should rush to see this. There is also Nicholas Cage's "Knowing", which looks rather interesting. Another one that could have decent potential is "12 Rounds", it is about a cop who must endure 12 different challenges to save his wife from an ex-con that he dealt with in the past, check out that trailer as it does look interesting . Kids will probably want to see "Monsters Vs. Aliens". Another one that may be decent is "Duplicity", which stars Clive Owen and Julia Roberts as a couple of spies that work for different bosses, not in the same way as "Mr. and Mrs. Smith", they are working together to pull some kind of con on these different bosses.

Seven Pounds Review

I went to the cheap theater to go see this tonight. I have to say that I thought it was really good. It is a serious Will Smith movie, but he was excellent, I continue to be impressed with what he can do, I am sure not everyone thought he would turn out to be this excellent by watching Fresh Prince when it started airing on TV years ago, I love Fresh Prince and I thought he was good, but I never really thought he would turn into the kind of actor that could do serious roles like this, by the way, I want to know why we still don't have seasons 5 and 6 of Fresh Prince on DVD available for purchase. I also thought that Rosario Dawson did an excellent job as well. I remember when I first saw her in the movie Men in Black 2, I didn't think much of her then, but wow she is an excellent actress. Everyone else did a good job as well. I won't be saying much about the plot, because the filmmakers worked on trying to keep it secret when it came out, but I highly recommend it.

For movies arriving this weekend, if any of you are into watching the Jonas Brothers, then they have their concert available in 3D. Another movies out this weekend is Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li. It may be a fun movie to watch. I am sure the Street Fighter fans will rush to see it.

Oscar Recap

I don't know how many of you watched the oscars last night. Overall, it was a pretty fun night. I think Hugh Jackman did a good job at hosting the oscars, and he was really funny with his opening last night. Not really too many surprises with the wins. The big change this year I was not really impressed with, for actor and actress awards given, they would have 5 different previous winners come up and then they would have each of them announce one of the nominees, and talk about how great of an actor or an actress they are. It was nice, but I miss them just playing a clip of their portrayal of the character. I thought there were very amusing moments, especially when Ben Stiller came up with Natalie Portman to announce the winner for Best Cinematography, and Ben had a beard and moustache similar to Joaquin Phoenix's a couple of weeks ago on the David Letterman show, and he was chewing gum, and simply acting the same way that Joaquin did, except I am sure Joaquin wasn't acting, but Ben sure pulled off an excellent intimidation.
I am glad Heath Ledger won the oscar for Best Supporting Actor, that was the best win, I was also glad to see that Wall-E took the oscar home for Best Animated Feature, I wish that it took home more oscars though, mainly for Best Original Screenplay, and Best Score.

Slumdog Millionaire was the big winner last night. An independant film that went from having nothing to gaining much. It looks rather interesting, I might check it out one day.
