Valkyrie Review

I just had the opportunity to go see Valkyrie tonight. I will be honest, it was more than I was suspecting. First of all, I am NOT a Tom Cruise fan, I actually don't like him, but I have seen some of his movies that were actually good, this is one of them. This was actually really good. This movie has to do with one of the many attempts to assassinate Hitler. I don't know my history too well, especially when it has to do with World War II, so this was a good history lesson, as well as an excellent story overall. Performances were also excellent by the many actors in the film. This is a film I highly recommend.

I hope many of you out there now have good New Year plans. It is crazy to believe that 2008 is almost over, and that we will be in 2009. I will soon try to post a review of the year.

Eagle Eye Blu-Ray

You want a pick on DVD and Blu-Ray this week, it is Eagle Eye. It came out on Saturday, so I picked it up on Blu-Ray. First of all, the movie is really good. The video and audio are excellent, and I have checked out a few features, and they are pretty good. It is highly recommend, pick it up on Blu-Ray, if you don't have it yet, you can pick it up on DVD as well, and it is available as a single disc and a two disc special edition with some extra features.

There are some other movies coming out on DVD and Blu-Ray this week. An American Carol is coming out, if you haven't heard of it, it is okay, so have many others. I haven't seen it, but if I did, it is because Michael Moore gets made fun of in this. As well, Serenity makes it on Blu-Ray, and many other catalogue titles like Ghost, Days of Thunder, and some others.

I had a Blu Christmas

Yes, it was a white Christmas for sure, but I received an amazing gift, a Blu-Ray player. That's right, a Blu-Ray player, and for Blu-Ray I received The Dark Knight and Hancock. So now, I have watched The Dark Knight all the way through on Blu-Ray and it is amazing on Blu-Ray. Also today, I bought Kung Fu Panda and Transformers on Blu-Ray. I have watched Kung Fu Panda on Blu-Ray and it is amazing. Amazing is the best way for me to describe Blu-Ray, so much detail it is incredible. As always, I look forward going through the extra features. I highly recommend Blu-Ray!!!

Hopefully you had a wonderful Christmas, I of course did. A little too much food though. I hope you have a Happy New Year as well next week. I will be writing an overview of this year soon, and I will also try to come up with a little schedule of what will be coming out on DVD and Blu-Ray within the next few months.

Merry Christmas!

I hope all of you have a Merry Christmas and that you have family to spend this wonderful holiday season. As well, remember the true meaning of Christmas. And don't worry, it's okay to receive presents too, that is important to Christmas as well. Our Savior, Jesus Christ, gave us the most important gift ever, and we need to learn to receive that.

Merry Christmas!

If you can, there are plenty of good movies coming out tomorrow, go check one out with the family.

Movies next Summer!

If you want an early look on what is coming out in the theaters next summer, there are plenty of trailers out there now. I have told you about the new Star Trek movie, the trailer should be easy to find now. Other trailers that have appeared this month are Terminator Salvation and X-Men Origins: Wolverine. That's right, there is a new X-Men movie, and this one will tell the back story of Wolverine, the trailer looks amazing, and I am so pumped for the new movie. Terminator Salvation looks like it could have potential, we will have to see. I really haven't watched the older films. I have seen the third one, and pieces of the first and second movies. I hope Terminator Salvation is awesome.

They are also releasing many other movies next summer, there is Fast and Furious. This one will bring Paul Walker and Vin Diesel back together. Disney and Pixar are releasing what should be another classic, it is called Up, an old man's house that can fly, I don't know too much, but check out the trailer. They are also releasing a sequel to 2007's blockbuster, Transformers. It is called Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. They will also release a movie based on another popular toy line, GI Joe. I remember playing with those toys when I was younger. The movie is called GI Joe: Rise of Cobra. There are many others, and I will try to go through them another time.

Good movies this Christmas

I just saw both The Tale of Despereaux and The Day the Earth Stood Still yesterday, and they are both on my recommendation list. The Tale of Despereaux is mainly about a mouse who isn't afraid of much of anything, there are also a few smaller stories that are linked together in the end. There was a lot of good talent that went into the film, and it was very well done.

The Day the Earth Stood Still is another spectacular looking science fiction movie. Lots of neat special effects, and there was a pretty good story to it. As well, if you want to see John Cleese in a serious role, here you go. He usually plays funny roles, for example he was in Rat Race, Shrek 2, and Die Another Day. So if you want a good disaster movie, here you go.

As well, Traitor has been released on DVD. As well, if anyone cares, The House Bunny is also out. There are a bunch of movies that are arriving on DVD and Blu Ray right before the holidays and after. Both Death Race and Burn After Reading are coming out before the Holidays. Afterwards, we get a bunch like Eagle Eye and Ghost Town.

Less than a week till Christmas, hopefully everyone has plans, it is a great time to be together as a family.

Many movies out tomorrow

First of all, if you haven't heard yet, The Dark Knight now has busted records on the home entertainment formats, it sold 13.5 million worldwide and 1.7 million of them being Blu-Ray. That is amazing.

Alright, for anyone looking for movies to see at the movie theater, there are a few choices tomorrow. We see the release of the animated adventure The Tale of Despereaux, it is about a mouse with big ears who really isn't afraid of anything, looks like a cute movie. Then there is Yes Man!, another Jim Carrey comedy, this time he has to say "yes" to everything. That would have to be hard because I would think that at one point you would have to say "no", but should be funny. Another movie which seems rather interesting is Seven Pounds, it stars Will Smith, and it is something about him helping other people, I don't know a whole lot, it doesn't seem they are revealing much about it, so it will have to be something we will need to go see to find out the secrets, should be pretty good though. There you go, you have a family movie, a comedy, and a drama, some good choices, and then there is The Day The Earth Stood Still and other earlier releases, I will be seeing The Day The Earth Stood Still tomorrow, so I will let you know what I think.

Christmas recommendations

Before I start, I got to see the movie Horton Hears a Who! on Saturday, and I have to say that it is hilarious. I found both Jim Carrey and Steve Carrell funny in their roles. If you get a chance to see it, I recommend it.

With Christmas almost here, there are plenty of movies that are perfect for the holiday season. You have all of the old cartoons like Santa Clause is Coming to Town, Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer, and Frosty the Snowman, of course the list goes on. If you want a comedy, I recommend Elf with Will Ferrell. Another classic that I enjoy is The Nightmare Before Christmas, good for both Halloween and Christmas. Another one that could possibly fit into both categories is Gremlins, it is somewhat of a horror film, and yet it takes place during Christmas, I say somewhat of a horror film because I find it more funny than scary. Another funny movie is The Santa Clause with Tim Allen. There is a huge list of good Christmas movies out there. The ones I have listed are only a few that I can think of. Maybe all of you can think of some other good Christmas classics.

A good time to Upgrade Equipment

Before I get into my subject for today, if you haven't heard, Hugh Jackman will be hosting the Academy Awards in a few months. Hopefully he does a good job. My favorite host has been Billy Crystal.

Anyway, I thought I would tell everyone that if you haven't started looking at upgrading your home entertainment center, I say now is a perfect time to start looking into it. The prices for an HDTV have been going down, I have been seeing some rather good deals on HDTVs, not a bad time to get a big screen TV. As well, the technology of them have been improving and they are amazing, I told you a few days ago when I was at Best Buy they were playing The Dark Knight on Blu Ray and looked absolutely amazing. If I personally had more money and a good place to play it, I would have immediately bought an HDTV and a Blu Ray player.

The next thing, look at getting a Blu Ray player, it plays amazing on an HDTV, you don't have to replace all your DVDs, because a Blu Ray player will play all of your DVDs, and they even upconvert them so they play good on an HDTV. A Blu Ray itself will still provide a better picture, but DVDs will still play an amazing picture. I am just glad that format war ended back in February, when HD-DVD considered defeat. I like the fact that now when I have the money and the right place, I can just pick up a Blu Ray player, and not have to worry about the other format.

Also, if you haven't thought about it, get a surround system, which is also referred to a home theater system. They are getting down to a much better price. They really enhance the movie experience. Watching The Dark Knight is a much better experience with surround sound, actually any movie is better to watch with surround sound.

The big thing about all of the equipment that I have recommended to look at, they are dropping down in price and are much affordable than they were a few years ago. Technology improves, and prices drop, that's a good deal!

Dark Knight DVD great

I just watched The Dark Knight on DVD in my little home theater set up, and the movie is just as good as when I saw it in theaters. The sound is awesome, and the picture is also great. A high recommendation. Also, the Golden Globe nominations are in, and Heath Ledger has received a nomination for his role as the Joker, amazing. One step closer to an Oscar nomination, hopefully they won't pull a Richard Gere who received a Golden Globe for his performance in Chicago and didn't receive an Oscar nomination for his same role.

Also, The Dark Knight sold 3 million copies, 600,000 of them being Blu Ray.

So what is arriving on DVD the rest of this month anyway, well next week there is The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, and Mama Mia. Traitor also arrives on DVD next Friday I believe. Also at the end of this month, Eagle Eye arrives on DVD and Blu Ray, right after Christmas. For all of the releases this Holiday Season, there is much you can buy as a Christmas Gift.

As well, much to look forward to in theaters as well.

Dark Knight Blu-Ray

I went over to Best Buy today to check out all of the new releases. When I walked in, I saw that The Dark Knight was playing on one of the HDTVs they have on display, they were on the Bat Pod sequence, and it looked absolutely amazing. As some of you are aware, six of the main action sequences were shot using IMAX cameras, and the Bat Pod sequence was one of those. Breathtaking is one word to describe how it looked. For those who own a Blu-Ray player, pick up The Dark Knight on that format, you won't be dissappointed. I would have picked it up on DVD today when I was there today, but Christmas is only two weeks away, so I am waiting. I will rent it this weekend and tell you how the DVD looks.

Well, Christmas is almost around the corner. I am really excited for it. I have my family coming down and look forward to that the most. Christmas is such a wonderful time to spend together as a family, and I hope all of you out get to. Also, it is a great time to ponder on the real meaning of Christmas, the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ.

The Dark Knight DVD and Blu-Ray

This is the week to bring home the biggest blockbuster of the summer, The Dark Knight. You can bring it home either on DVD, two disc DVD, or Blu-Ray. With HDTVs and Blu-Ray players rising, it would make sense to buy the Blu-Ray version for the higher quality, but if you haven't bought a Blu-Ray player yet, DVD is just as good too. I heard a while back that Warner Bros. was making 1 million copies of The Dark Knight on Blu-Ray with hopes that they will sell a lot of copies of it. It will be an exciting week the home entertainment format.

Also this week, the movie Horton Hears a Who comes to DVD as well. I never saw it when it was in theaters, but I heard it was pretty good. I may give that one a rental.

This week in theaters, look for the movie The Day the Earth Stood Still, a remake of the 1951 SciFi film. Has anyone seen the original? I didn't know anything about it until I heard of the remake. The remake looks interesting, so I plan to check it out. Also, the movie Nothing Like The Holidays arrives, it is another Christmas movie about a messed up family, like Four Christmases. Also, the movie Doubt arrives, I don't know much about it though. The rest of the month provides a little something for everyone. I will keep you posted on these movies.

Happy December

Well, today is the first of December, so Happy December. I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. I hope everyone at least had a decent meal that day. Maybe if you were lucky the next day, you woke up early in the morning to do some shopping. That's what I did, I woke up early to get to Best Buy when it opened at 5:00 in the morning. There were plenty of sales that happened that made it worth it. No matter where you went, I am sure you found something a little cheaper than usual. I got a season of Seinfeld for $15.

Also this past weekend, I got to see the movie Transporter 3. I enjoyed it, Jason Statham was great, but it was a little different than the other ones.

As well for this month, look for many great DVD releases. Chronicles of Narnia 2 comes out tomorrow along with X-Files: I Want to Believe, along with other movies.

Wall-E DVD good

I have watched the movie Wall-E on a decent set up over the weekend and the video and audio quality are excellent. There are also some really good features on the disc. If any of you just get the one disc edition, there is a really good feature besides the two short animated features, it is a documentary that goes through developing the sounds of Wall-E. Ben Burtt is responsible for the sound effects of the movie as well as the voice of Wall-E, and he goes through what he did to make it all happen, very fascinating actually. But yeah, the Wall-E DVD is a good buy.

Speaking of DVDs, the Back to the Future Trilogy will be released on February 10 as separate releases for the first time. For any of you that only liked the first one and didn't care for any of the other ones, then you can pick that one up, as well, any one looking for new extra features on the making of Back to the Future, there should be some new content included with the individual releases. I will keep you posted as more is learned. Also, the Bourne trilogy will be coming to Blu-Ray in January.

For any of you that don't know what happened at the box office this weekend, vampires took over with $70 million, that's right, Twilight. I have heard both sides, but overall it sounds like they did a pretty good job with it. What to look for this coming week, on Wednesday will be the release of Transporter 3, Austrailia, and Four Christmases. Transporter 3 puts Jason Statham back in a very popular role for him, seems like there will be a few new turns this time. Austailia is the new big epic starring Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman, suppose to be a big oscar contender, but we will see what everyone says. Four Christmases stars Reese Witherspoon and Vince Vaughn who visit their relatives for Christmas, both their parents are divorced so that is why it's called "Four" Christmases, and none of their families are role models. There will be another dysfunctional family Christmas comedy in December entitled Nothing Like the Holidays. Stay Tuned.

Wall-E DVD

I picked up the three disc edition of Wall-E a couple of days ago. I have watched a bit of the special features and they are great. The new short Burn-E is hilarious. It does have a pretty high price tag, but I think it is worth it, luckily I got for $10 cheaper due to special circumstances. Here is the short version of the special circumstances, I pre-ordered it at Best Buy three months ago, and when I picked it up, they promise to give you the item within one minute the second they go to pick up the item in their warehouse, well it took them about 3 minutes to get the copy to me, and therefore they gave me a $10 discount. I felt lucky. I will give you more a review tomorrow or the next day when I actually can view the quality of the presentation and check out more of the special features.

Quantum of Solace review

I got to see Quantum of Solace this afternoon, and I really liked it. Just so all of you know, this movie takes place right after Casino Royale, so you should watch that one first before going into this one. This was a fast paced action movie, and Daniel Craig is still a great James Bond. I absolutely recommend it.

Also, if you go see it, you will get a trailer for the new Star Trek movie. I am not a fan of Star Trek, in fact, I have not seen any of the old movies, even though I have heard that some of them are good, but it actually looks cool, and I think anyone would expect that from J.J. Abrams who has worked on cool projects like Mission Impossible 3. Next summer should be good. This winter also looks great too.

As well to prep for the new James Bond movie, I watched GoldenEye this week, and I really enjoyed that one. My favorite sequence is the tank chase sequence. I do want to check out some more older James Bond movies and especially make comparisons to the different James Bonds throughout the years.

DVDs out this week

This week we see the release of Kung Fu Panda on DVD, well actually, it came out on Saturday. It was originally suppose to come out Sunday, but instead it was decided to release it a day early. I actually was able to get a copy on Friday at a store. The picture and audio are good. As well this week, we see the release of Hellboy 2 and Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Star Wars: The Clone Wars was released in theaters three months ago as a preview into the show that debuted onto Cartoon Network a month ago. I watched a few minutes of an episode on Cartoon Network. I found The Clone Wars movie not great, it did not seem impressive at all, but there are probably Star Wars fans that might enjoy it, especially younger ones. Hellboy 2 was an interesting movie, visually interesting. Anyone that wants to check it out, I recommend it.

Next week on DVD, we see the release of Wall-E, the ordinary robot that went on an extraordinary adventure. An absolute recommend. I have already ordered the three-disc edition. It contains the movie along with a bunch of extra features, and also a digital copy of the movie. The third disc is the digital copy, which is a version that you can place on your iPod. The Nightmare Before Christmas has something similar, as well as some new DVDs out today. One of the extra features on the Wall-E three disc edition is a documentary entitled “The Pixar Story”, this documentary shows the journey of Pixar from when they started to where they are now. I will go through the DVD set once I get it and let you know how the video and audio are, along with some of the special features. Also, Pixar is saying that the BluRay version is supposed to be spectacular. They say all the detail they placed into the movie will be shown in the version, and should be very crisp clear picture. One thing I can say, thank goodness we have a winner in the high definition war, so now Blu Ray can get pushed to it’s limits and allow many to experience this awesome format. We probably will be seeing Blu Ray rise more this holiday season.
This weekend, look for Quantum of Solace in theaters, the new James Bond movie. It looks very good and I am excited to see it. Also, if you haven’t had a chance to see Madagascar 2, go see it, it is funny.

Madagascar: Back 2 Africa review

Funny, Funny, Funny. I really enjoyed this movie. It takes off exactly where the last one left off, leaving to return to New York. However, on the way, they crash in Africa, where the movie takes place. There were plenty of laughs. The original cast is back in this one, and also there are a few new members added to the cast. One of them is the late Bernie Mac, who plays Alex's father, Zuba. I totally recommend this. It is funny!!!!

New President

Well, as all of you have probably heard by now. Obama will be our new president. Hopefully he does a good job. It is funny we actually found out the results today instead of three weeks later. I remember the election back in 2000, they had to keep recalculating the votes. It took about a month for the new president to be decided. Well, I hope for the best from Barack Obama.

As for new DVDs released today, Get Smart is out. I recommend it, it is very funny. They have also rereleased the Star Wars movies on DVDs packaged as the original trilogy and the prequel trilogy. Nothing new about them, but if you haven't bought them yet, now is another chance. Also, the Bourne movies are now available in a trilogy package.

This month will bring forth some pretty good releases, both in theaters and on DVD. Madagascar 2 arrives this Friday. I am looking forward to it as I found the first one very funny. As well, Quantum of Solace arrives the following weekend. Speaking of James Bond, I was watching Die Another Day tonight. I was wondering what good James Bond movies there are, the only ones I have seen are Die Another Day, Casino Royale (2006), and Tomorrow Never Dies, I have also seen parts of Goldeneye and The World is Not Enough. As for other releases this month, there is Twilight, I have my mom who is really looking forward to it, and for action guys there is Transporter 3. Of course there are others as well.

As for DVD, Kung Fu Panda arrives this weekend. That is for sure a must see, it is funny. Hellboy 2 and The Clone Wars arrive next weekend. Hellboy 2 is interesting, and The Clone Wars is skippable. On November 18, Wall-E arrives, I am excited for it, it is an excellent movie. On November 25, Hancock comes out, which was good. There are of course other big releases. But on December 9, look for The Dark Knight, which shouldn't be too hard to find out because there should be plenty of advertising beforehand.

Happy Halloween

For DVDs this week, we get Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D, and the DVD actually contains the 3D version, and 4 glasses to watch it in that format. I have not checked out the DVD for myself, but I found the movie enjoyable. The other big movie that came out is a direct to DVD release called Tinkerbell. The little fairy from Peter Pan gets her own movie. Haven't seen it but might be decent for the family to watch, but I would recommend checking out Journey to the Center of the Earth. Any old movies to check out, I just watched the movie Clue, it is a very old movie based on the board game. I got a good laugh out of it.

As well, being Halloween, here are a few movies to watch if you want to watch something that night. There are your usual slasher films, but I am not into those. I would recommend watching Nightmare Before Christmas, you can get it on DVD, or maybe you can head to the theater and watch it in 3D. If you don't care for 3D, just pick it up, it is a good movie, plus it is a movie you can watch again when Christmas comes. There are suspensful movies like Sixth Sense and Signs. You can get a few laughs with Gremlins. I also recently watched a rather weird movie done by Disney in the early 80s, Watcher in the Woods. Another good one to get some laughs is Hocus Pocus. I am sure you can find plenty of movies to watch on Halloween that fit the bill.

Movies in the theater this weekend are too big, but next weekend look for Madagascar 2. November is packed along with December. I will go through them as they come out.

Winter Movies

We have a huge list of movies to look forward to this Holiday season. I would like to take a moment and list some of the top movies to look for this winter:

-Quantum of Solace – Daniel Craig is back again as James Bond. If you have checked out the trailers, you have to admit how exciting the movie is. I think this one will be even better than Casino Royale.

-Twilight – Not on my top list, but I know a lot of woman that are excited for the movie. All I really know about the movie is that it has vampires.

-Madagascar 2 – I have only recently seen the first movie, but I think it is hilarious. So far, the previews prove that this movie should be just as funny.

-Transporter 3 – Jason Statham returning in the role that has made him popular. I am excited, probably not a whole lot different than the last ones, but heck they were good movies.

-The Day the Earth Stood Still – It is a remake of an old science fiction movie back in 1951. I haven’t seen it, but I have heard it was pretty good, so I kind of want to check out the old one, as well as this new one.

-Bedtime Stories – After all the pretty crude movies that Adam Sandler has done, he goes family friendly. Interesting move, but the trailer makes this movie kind of cute. Adam Sandler tells a bedtime story to his young niece and nephew, and the next day whatever the kids share in the bedtime story comes true. If you watch the trailer, you will probably laugh a little bit.

-Bolt – Another one of Disney’s computer animated movies like Chicken Little and Meet the Robinsons, Bolt is a dog that is the star of a television show who thinks that everything he is in is real. Looks like it may be cute, who knows.

-Tale of Despereaux – A mouse with big ears who isn’t afraid of anything. Looks like it could be a fun animated movie. Matthew Broderick and Emma Watson provide voices in it.

-Yes Man – Another Jim Carrey movie. It looks like it will be funny. Kind of reminds me of Liar Liar, but this time Jim is saying yes to everything.

-Valkyrie – Tom Cruise’s new movie. Not too much respect for Tom Cruise anymore, however this may be a pretty solid movie.

-The Curious Case of Benjamin Button – Very strange movie. It is about a guy that grows younger instead of older. Weird.

-The Spirit – Directed by Frank Miller, who also worked on Sin City. It looks rather interesting. I don’t know how the story will be though.

This is just a few of the movies coming out. Let me know if you know any good or wierd movies coming out. Just to let you know, that some of these movies are not on my list to see.

Indiana Jones 4 on DVD

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull came out on DVD yesterday, as you might have guessed. I picked up the 2 disc edition, and checked out some of the features yesterday and there are some pretty good extras. The video and audio quality should be great. Lots of great movies arriving on DVD this winter, I plan to put some of them on my Christmas list.

As well, there are some pretty decent movies at the theater. Eagle Eye is something worth checking out if you haven't yet. A few movies come out this weekend, one of them is W., the story about George W. Bush as president, and it's released as he still is president, interesting. Max Payne also arrives in theaters. I am looking forward to November with the release of the new James Bond movie "Quantum of Solace". There are some other movies arriving that month that look like they are worth checking out.

New DVDs this week

Well, yesterday there were a few new DVDs that were released. Sleeping Beauty was released on a Platinum Edition DVD, as well as Blu-Ray. Here is a little note about the Blu-Ray version, you get the DVD version of the movie as well. The idea is that you can buy the Blu-Ray version now and still enjoy the movie, and then when you get a Blu-Ray player, you can enjoy all the Blu-Ray version. This DVD version is suppose to be an improvement over the last one, I can't say that for sure because I haven't checked it out yet. Other DVD releases include You Don't Mess with the Zohan! and The Happening. There are of course other little releases. As well, Beetlejuice actually arrived on Blu-Ray this week.

Next week, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull arrives on DVD and Blu-Ray. That will be exciting, plus there are a bunch of other releases next week as well.

There are some movies arriving at the movie theater this weekend. Quartintine arrives, which seems like it is done in the same manner as The Blair Witch Project and Cloverfield. This one looks really disturbing. City of Ember also arrives, which looks kind of interesting. Also, Body of Lies with Russell Crowe and Leonardo DiCaprio. There is a bit of a selection. This holiday season looks like there will be some good movies.

Eagle Eye review

I got to see Eagle Eye tonight. I really liked it. It was pretty intense, especially the idea. It is definitely something that I recommend. Plenty of action and suspense. Highly recommended.

Also today, I received my copy of Iron Man, the 2 disc Ultimate Edition. I watched a couple of extra features on the second disc, a screen test of Robert Downey Jr., and a little video on Robert Downey Jr. and Jeff Bridges rehearsing for a scene. I will be looking at the making of documentary soon. Recommend you go out and buy it.

Dark Knight DVD, plus Paul Newman passes away

First of all, The Dark Knight has been confirmed to arrive on DVD and Blu Ray December 9. There are plenty of features for the 2 disc DVD edition and the Blu Ray. My hope is some features on transforming Heath Ledger into the Joker and how he was able to pull off such an amazing performance. As well, they are selling single disc editions, both widescreen and full screen separately. I wonder why they are still selling full screen editions. They are working on trying to sell more HDTVs and trying to get ride of square TVs. I am surprised. How many still buy full screen editions.

As well, you may have heard that Paul Newman passed away yesterday, after battling cancer. This really wasn't a surprise because there have been reports for a while that he wasn't doing well. This is sad news, even though I haven't seen many of his movies, but I did like him in The Sting and Cars. He will be missed.

More DVD announcements

Okay, I just learned of this today, so I thought I let you know, as I said that I plan to let you know about the main DVDs coming out in the next few months. Well, expect Get Smart to arrive on DVD and Blu Ray on November 4. Something for sure to look forward to. If you missed it in theaters, I definitely recommend checking it out on DVD, it is really funny. I agree with anyone that said that there were a few things that could have been left out, but nonetheless I laughed really hard during the movie.

Oh yeah, expect Hellboy 2 to arrive on DVD November 11. I will keep you posted on more DVD announcements as I hear them. As well, I will give you a quick review of the Iron Man DVD set when it arrives.

Tuesday, September 23, 2008

This weekend!

This weekend will see the release of the movie Eagle Eye. I am really looking forward to it, I don't know too much about the plot but I recommend checking out the trailer. I don't know exactly when I will check out the movie, probably opening night, but we will see. As always, once I see it, I will let you know what I think.

As for DVDs, there are a few releases this week, nothing I wanted to get my hands on, but there might be something for you. There is Sex and the City and Leatherheads, and also Paramount rereleased the Godfather movies. Next week, Iron Man!!! I am so excited. May not be too much in selection next week, but Iron Man, come on?

As well, check for good sales like at Best Buy, there is always great movies at very low prices.

DVDs coming out

I just found out the other day a few DVDs that are coming out soon. On October 28, look for the movie Journey to the Center of the Earth on DVD and Blu-Ray, as well expect them to come with 3D glasses for anyone that wants to watch it in 3D, and for anyone who doesn't, there is the option to watch it normal. I wasn't a huge fan on the 3D part, but I think that's pretty cool.

As well, expect Hancock on November 25. Speaking of Hancock, Will Smith's movie last year I Am Legend is being rereleased on DVD December 9 as an Ultimate Collector's Edition, it should be packed with plenty of goodies. Funny, around that time last year was when it arrived in theaters and became a legend at the box office.

There is a lot to come out within the next few months on DVD. Iron Man arrives on September 30, I am excited for that. There is plenty to look forward to.

DVD updates

Like I said, I would let you know on any confirmations concerning DVD releases. Here are some of the updates that are coming through. The first one really shocks me, Kung Fu Panda will be released on November 9, and if you look on your calendar it is a Sunday, that's right, a Sunday! There is also a direct to video release on the same day called Secrets of the Furious Five. Other news is that The X-Files: I Want to Believe will be released on December 2. Oh yeah, all of these dates include the Blu Ray version. There will also be a Blu Ray release of the first X-Files movie that day as well. There is also a rumor that The Rocker will be released on DVD October 14, if true, that is a really quick trip from the theaters to DVD.

As for this week, there are plenty of releases. Two of the movies are the blockbuster bombs of the summer, Speed Racer and The Love Guru. Speed Racer in my opinion was enjoyable, there were a lot of cool visuals and was a fun movie to watch, I think anyone that wants to check it out should. Love Guru, haven't seen it and don't care to. There is also a release of a Deluxe Edition of Beetlejuice. Many other releases like Avatar: The Last Airbender Book 3, Made of Honor, 88 Minutes, and many others.

Computers have changed since 1983

I recently watched the movie War Games. That movie was made back in 1983 and the big thing that I noticed was that the computers have changed so much since then. They seemed so much simpler in what they could do then, and now we can do so much more now. I also noticed how young Matthew Broderick is. If anyone hasn't checked the movie out before, I recommend checking it out, it was a fun movie to watch.

Quantum of Solace trailer

Yes, there is a new trailer for the new James Bond movie, "Quantum of Solace". It looks like it should be very good. I am really excited. I liked Casino Royale, Daniel Craig did a good job last time as James Bond. Exciting. Check out the trailer on movies.yahoo.com

Being Tuesday, there are a bunch of new DVDs released today. The main ones are Baby Mama and The Forbidden Kingdom. I haven't seen Baby Mama, some said it was pretty funny, but it isn't anything on the top of my list. The Forbidden Kingdom was something I saw before the summer started and I liked it, it is a fun movie with plenty of action, lots of beautiful scenery, and nice to see Jackie Chan and Jet Li together.

I don't know what will come this weekend at the movies, nothing seems that exciting. Things really slow down for movies in the Fall, hopefully there are some good offerings here and there. The one movie I am looking forward to this month is Eagle Eye. Check out the trailer if you haven't seen one yet.

Box Office Update

Box office for Labor Day weekend saw The Dark Knight cross $500 million in total domestic earnings, and saw Tropic Thunder stay on top of the charts even with new movies out. Babylon AD was in the number two spot, The Dark Knight in number three, House Bunny in number four, and Traitor in number five. Not too bad.

I ended up watching the movie King Arthur the other day and it was pretty good. It was a movie released in 2004 but wasn't entirely successful. I rented it off iTunes and watched it, and it was pretty good. There were some really cool battle sequences near the end. I definitely recommend checking it out at least once. It's funny that there is a lot of great stuff that comes out to the theaters, but there are also a lot of stuff on DVD that is worth checking out, whether it is old or new. Speaking of DVDs, The Office season 4 came out yesterday, and Transformers arrived on Blu-Ray.

Summer Review

We had an excellent summer full of movies. I would like to give you a quick review on the movies that I had the chance to see this summer.

-The Dark Knight – The best Batman movie I have seen, and for sure the best movie to come out this summer. The main attraction for the movie is the Joker, Heath Ledger’s performance is incredible, every time he is on the screen you are just drawn to him. There are other things that made The Dark Knight a hit, lots of action, a very well written story, lots of twists, excellent performances, and how about the Batpod. Well-done Christopher Nolan.

-Wall-E – Disney/Pixar’s recent creation, and probably one of their best. It is different than the other films released by Pixar, but it truly stands out. If anyone ever had concerns on giving a robot emotions in a movie should see this. I was really impressed by it. How can you not watch the movie and fall in love with the robot Wall-E I am close to saying that out of the Pixar films, that this one has become my new favorite.

-Iron Man – Probably the biggest surprise of the summer. I was not expecting much when I first saw it. Robert Downey Jr. was great, and the story was good as well. Congratulations on developing a movie that exceeded expectations.

-Kung Fu Panda – I really like kung fu movies like Hero, and this was an excellent offering by DreamWorks Animation. It is filled with humor, action, and a good story. And the animation is cool to look at as well.

-Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull – The new Indy movie proved to be a fun ride for me, and yes some of the elements in the movie were less impressive, but the opportunity to see Indiana Jones in action on the big screen was good enough for me. Also the return of Karen Allen made it more fun, being the one Indy girl I like the most.

-Get Smart – A really funny slapstick comedy. Looking for something to just sit back and laugh till it hurts, this is a movie for you. Steve Carrell is really funny in this.

-Traitor – The one summer movie that probably isn’t getting that much attention, but I highly recommend it. There were a lot of great performances by Don Cheadle and Guy Pearce. As well as many twists and turns in the movie.

-Hancock – Will Smith plays a superhero that you would not want as your kid’s role model, well, at least for the first part of the movie. I do think this was another great performance by Will Smith. It was fun to watch the movie, different than what I expected and there were some really interesting twists to the movie.

-Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian – The sequel to The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe back in 2005. This was a good film. Lots of neat special effects, and of course a lot of neat Christian references.

-Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D – This movie wasn’t really on my to see list, but I decided to take a look into it, besides at my job I get to see movies for free. I found this movie to be rather entertaining, very enjoyable. My only complaint was the 3D glasses got annoying, but the movie was still a fun ride.

-The Incredible Hulk – A rather surprising movie, after Ang Lee’s less than impressive interpretation back in 2003, they decided to redo the franchise, 5 years is pretty quick. I really enjoyed this new one. Edward Norton was a good Bruce Banner, I also enjoyed Tim Roth as the villain.

-Speed Racer – Probably one of the most expensive flops ever, but a very visually interesting movie. I thought it was good, and yes it is very different and will not appealing to many, but was still fun to watch.

-Hellboy 2: The Golden Army – It has been four years since I saw the first one, wasn’t really a fan of the first one. I did enjoy this new one, it is visually different than what I have seen in a long time. After seeing it, I want to check out the first one again.

-Star Wars: The Clone Wars – George Lucas’s recent entry in the Star Wars series, just not what you would expect. It is a computer-animated version that is to help jumpstart the new TV show that will air this fall. Very cheesy but has a few entertaining moments. Not recommended to anyone that isn’t a hardcore fan of the Star Wars series. I wouldn’t even be surprised if it shows up on TV soon.

-The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor – Probably one of the most disappointing sequels I have seen in a while. The sad part was they took a lot of the elements that made The Mummy franchise so appealing, And with the changes made, it could have had potential to be a great summer movie, but it just fell flat on the floor. Still had some fun moments though.

I am curious with many of you out there, what was your favorite movie this summer? Feel free to respond in the comment section.

Traitor review

I got out of Traitor not too long ago, and I really liked it, it was very well done. Performances by Don Cheadle and Guy Pearce were excellent. Some good action and lots of suspense. I give it a high recommend. An excellent movie to finish off a wonderful summer.

Some good DVD releases

Well this week we have a few good releases on DVD. First of all, The Nightmare Before Christmas is again available on DVD two months before Halloween, this time as a collector's edition. I watched the DVD and the video and audio presentation is awesome, I haven't checked out the special features yet, but there seems to be a good amount to explore. Also released this week is What Happens in Vegas, Heroes Season 2, Little Mermaid: Ariel's Beginning, and others, there should be a little something for everyone. Also, some rumor dates for DVDs coming out soon, Get Smart should be arriving on DVD on December 2, and Star Wars: The Clone Wars on November 11.

This week in theaters we see the release of Babylon AD and Disaster Movie, and today we have the release of Traitor. I will be checking out that movie tomorrow.

Oh yeah, a little update, I no longer work at the movie theater since I have to go back to school, so I won't be seeing these movies ahead of time. But I will continue to post my reviews on the movies that I do see.

DVD release schedule

After a weekend full of new releases, Tropic Thunder remains on top with about $16 million, The House Bunny does well in second place with about $15 million, Death Race is in third with about $12 million, The Longshots open in eighth place with about $4 million, and The Rocker gains about $2 million this weekend putting it in about 12th place, making it a huge flop. The Dark Knight gained another $10 million and it now stands at about $489 million, and should cross $500 million in a week.

With a summer full of big movie releases, it means that we have a winter full of big DVD releases. I decided to put together a little schedule together of a few of the DVDs that should be coming out within the next four months. Summer winding down

Only two more weekends till the summer is over. This has been a really good summer for movies. This weekend we see the release of The House Bunny, The Longshots, and also today we saw the release of the movie The Rocker. I haven't heard too much on The Rocker, but should be pretty funny, with Dwight from The Office in it. We will have to see what performs well this weekend.

Next weekend, we see the release of Traitor, Babylon A.D., and Disaster Movie. Out of all of them, I am looking forward to Traitor the most. Don Cheadle, Jeff Daniels, and Guy Pearce star in it. The next I want to see is Babylon A.D., looks like it has potential, stars Vin Diesel.
I am not looking forward to Disaster Movie though, looks like a disaster.

As well, expect a good number of DVD releases this fall and winter. Iron Man comes out on DVD September 30, Indiana Jones comes out October 14. Sleeping Beauty on DVD again October 7. Also, we are expecting soon details on the DVD release of Wall-E, which should be November 18, and rumors of The Dark Knight coming out on DVD early December. I will be posting shortly a list of all the major DVD releases coming out the next 4 months, whether they are confirmed or rumored.

Speaking of DVDs, I recently checked out the straight to DVD release of the movie "Get Smart: Bruce and Lloyd Out of Control", in case no one knows what it is, it is a spin off movie from this summer's movie "Get Smart", it shows the adventures of the two tech geeks that would work on the gadgets like the fly robot at the beginning, they are also friends of Max. Anyway, this movie follows their own adventure in trying to get one of their experiments out of the wrong hands, I have to admit it was pretty funny, definitely nowhere as funny as the movie "Get Smart". Don't see this movie till you have seen the movie "Get Smart" first. Recommended for anyone that wouldn't mind checking it out, and for anyone that liked Bruce and Lloyd.

Besides the little DVD schedule I will give, I will also give a recap on the movies that I saw this summer, and what I thought of them. Check back soon.

Bad news Harry Potter fans

This is news that came out on the weekend, but didn't report it, so I will report it now for any of you who haven't heard it yet. The latest Harry Potter movie installment "Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince" will not be released this November like originally anticipated, instead it will be released on July 17, 2008, eight months later. This has obviously made Harry Potter fans upset, but I have heart nothing on the last two movies based on the last book (that's right, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" is split into two movies) so that will mean a shorter wait between this movie and the last two movies.

But there is good news for Twilight fans, how about a Thanksgiving gift. Twilight will be coming out on November 21, three weeks earlier than the original release date, December 12.

There are a few DVD releases this week. There is a direct to DVD sequel to the movie The Scorpion King, actually it is a prequel. There is also Prom Night, as well as a bunch of other releases to appeal to any taste out there.

Tropic Thunder knocks Dark Knight off top spot

It happened, The Dark Knight has finally been beaten. Tropic Thunder was number one with $26 million. But The Dark Knight is in the number two spot with about $16 million. Dark Knight also stands at the number two blockbuster of all time behind Titanic, amazing. Star Wars - The Clone Wars was number three with $15 million.

This weekend, we have the release of The Rocker. Then next weekend we have Babylon AD with Vin Diesel, having seen a trailer for it a while ago, it seems like it may be a pretty good movie, we will have to see though. Also that weekend, they are releasing another spoof movie, Disaster Movie. I have to admit that when they were releasing spoof movies years ago, like Scary Movie 3, they seemed funny and a good way to get a laugh, now they seem like garbage. If you have seen the trailer for the movie Disaster Movie may understand why I say garbage. Doesn't seem funny at all.

Star Wars - The Clone Wars review

I had the opportunity to view Star Wars - The Clone Wars last night. I didn't have any real expectations for this one. After viewing it, I didn't think it was that bad. But I will say this, I don't think it is something you necessarily need to rush to see in the theaters. It was kind of weird watching this because it felt like a TV movie. This movie was made to help bring in the new computer animated TV show coming this Fall, hence why the characters are all computer animated in this one. It was still fun to watch, but I would only recommend this one to the hardcore Star Wars fan.

I also got to watch the movie Journey to the Center of the Earth in 3D. It has been out for a month, finally decided to see it. I actually found it entertaining. A lot of neat special effects. Having 3D glasses kind of bugged me, but was still fun. I do recommend it, especially for families.

Well, the summer is winding down, only three more weekends. On the last weekend, I will give a quick review of the summer and all the movies I watched over the course of the summer.

As well, I don't know of any new DVD releases that seem to excite everyone this week. But just to let any of you know if you are interested, The Nightmare Before Christmas will be re-released on DVD on August 26.

Speaking of DVDs, I just watched Toy Story last night, and it has been a while since I last watched it. It was interesting to watch the animation and remembering how amazing it was when it first came out in 1995. But even more interesting is to see how much computer animation has really advanced. It is so amazing what technology can do.

Dark Knight on top spot again

Want some big news, besides the fact that the Olympics have started on Friday, how about the fact that The Dark Knight has topped the box office for it's fourth weekend. That's right, The Dark Knight took in another $26 million this weekend beating out the new movies Pineapple Express and Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2. Right now, The Dark Knight stands around $440 million at third place of the all time box office. It's funny it has taken four weekends to get to the third place of the all time box office. It should hit number 2 in that chart in another week beating out Star Wars and right behind Titanic. That is just amazing. Yeah, Titanic was number one on box office weekends for 15 weekends, but during those times there weren't really anything coming out to confront it. This summer, there have been a lot of great movies that have confronted it, so in that sense, The Dark Knight is a true phenomenon this summer.

Sad News, Bernie Mac just passed away

I just found out this morning on the news that Bernie Mac passed away at the age of 50 due to complications of pneumonia. This is really sad news, I have been hearing rumors early this week that he had severe pneumonia and that he might not survive, but there were others that he was responding to the treatment well. He was in the Ocean Eleven movies, which were very good, I found him to be very funny. some other movies that he has been in are Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle, Guess Who, and Transformers. It is a real loss to the movie industry.

Dark Knight, this year's phenomenon

Well, The Dark Knight just crossed $400 million, and it did it within 18 days of it's release, phenomenon is the best word I can use to describe all the records this movie has broken. I have to say it's fun keeping track at how well this movie is doing. When I first saw the trailer in December, I knew the movie was going to be big, I just didn't know how big the movie would be. How far will it go, we will still have to see. I could see The Dark Knight staying on the top spot for a couple of more weekends. This weekend, we see the release of The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 and The Pineapple Express, I don't see either really topping Dark Knight.

I got the opportunity to see Wall-E again today. I realize what an amazing summer we have had for movies. We have had great movies like Iron Man, Indiana Jones, Kung Fu Panda, Get Smart, Wall-E, and The Dark Knight. I will give my recap on the movies when we hit the end of the summer.

Also, no spetacular new releases on DVD this week, but go to Best Buy and check out all of the DVDs on sale, there are some pretty good ones on sale. I just got Independence Day for $3.99, awesome deal. There are a bunch for $3.99 like the X-Men movies, and others, there are other movies on sale for $6.99 and some Disney movies for $5.99. Best Buy is the one place I go to pick up my movies on DVD, and to just look around. It is amazing how cheap a lot of the DVDs are getting, some of them are even cheaper than going to the actual theater. And with home theaters actually as good as the actual theater experience, then you can have a great deal.

Third weekend on top

Another weekend has gone by and The Dark Knight has remained on top, just barely beating The Mummy 3. It stands around $395 million, after Monday it will be past $400 million, and that will be another big record broken, the fastest to get to $400 million, which was last held by Shrek 2, which took 43 days to get past it.

I had the chance to see The Mummy 3 Thursday night, and I was actually disappointed. It had good special effects, but felt really different compared to the other Mummy movies, which were really fun to watch. Rachel Weisz was replaced in the movie, and her and Brandon Fraser worked really well in the first two, it didn't really work between the new actress and Brandon Fraser, it was weird. It was a different director, Rob Cohen, when I first saw his name attached to the movie, I thought he would do a good job, but maybe not the best choice. I thought having Jet Li would be awesome, but he didn't have enough screen time to be very impressed with him. It was a very disappointing movie this summer, I was hoping for better.

Another Broken Record

The Dark Knight just crossed the $300 million mark this weekend, just as predicted, it now holds the record of getting to $300 million the fastest, 10 days. Next record, getting to $400 million the fastest, which everyone is predicting to happen in a week. It is amazing to see how much this movie is making, breaking records back and forth. The number one movie is Titanic which is at $600 million, everyone is saying that if any movie can get close to how much Titanic has made, even surpass it, it is Dark Knight. How much can the movie actually make, we will have to see. Nonetheless, amazing movie. This weekend was pretty decent for the other movies, Stepbrothers opened up at number 2 spot with $30 million, and X Files opened up in number 4 spot with $10 million.

Friday, July 25, 2008

$300 million for Dark Knight

It is possible. This weekend, we see the releases of X Files 2 and Step Brothers, unfortunately I haven't seen any of them, I will probably check out X Files 2 later on, I haven't seen the first movie and I don't know much about the TV series. But neither look like they will take the top spot. The Dark Knight will probably be number one again this weekend, and as of Wednesday it stands at $222.1 million, so this weekend it could cross the $300 million mark, and it would have done it in 10 days, that is a big record. The movie that holds the record for reaching $300 million the fastest is Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, which took about 16 days to reach it. The interesting part would be if it crosses $300 million this weekend, it will have crushed Iron Man's record of being number one this whole summer, and it took Iron Man basically two months to reach $300 million, and it only would take 10 days for Dark Knight to reach the top spot of the summer, as well as the year.

Wednesday, July 23, 2008

Bigger record

Found out yesterday that Dark Knight earned 158 million during the past weekend instead of $155 million, which is $3 million more. That is impressive, and it is still doing great. I am really sure that it will be the number one movie of the summer, in fact, the year. Some are predicting that it could end up with more than $400 million, we will have to see how much the movie ends up with.

This weekend, we have X Files 2 and Step Brothers released in theaters. With that, I think that Dark Knight will remain on top again this coming weekend. I got to see the movie again on Monday, still excellent.

As for DVD picks this week, there is 21. 21 is about a group of students who go to Las Vegas to count cards. It is a really good movie, I recommend it.

The summer is winding down, I can't believe how fast it has gone. Basically one more month to go. The remainder of movies coming out for the rest of the summer are Mummy 3, Star Wars Clone Wars, Babylon A.D., Traitor, Swing Vote, and others, but nothing that will stun everyone I don't think.

Dark Knight sets new box office record

Dark Knight was number one at the box office this weekend (no surprise), and it received an income of $155.3 million, which is a new record for the most a movie has made in one weekend. Spider Man 3 held that position last year, not Dark Knight took over that position. It has also set a new record of making the most money in one day, with about $66 million. As well, on Thursday night, it also set the new record of earning the most during a midnight showing, with about $18.5 million. And as well, it has set the record for the most a Batman movie has made in opening weekend, or any weekend for that matter.

The Dark Knight review

To start off, I thought The Dark Knight was amazing. It was very well put together. I really didn't know what to expect when I walked in, I had some ideas, but found myself stunned as I was watching the movie and to see the plot unravel. This movie truly is the big summer blockbuster that we have been hyping about. The movie was filled with intense situations for our heroes, even times where difficult choices had to be made.

When I first heard about Heath Ledger playing the Joker, I never really thought of how he would pull it off. His performance was amazing, shocking, terrifying, and magnificent. I have read a lot how he could get a posthumous Oscar nomination, he does deserve it, that's how great the performance was. Everyone else was great as well Christian Bale always does a good job as Bruce Wayne/Batman, along with Michael Caine as Alfred, I really liked Aaron Eckhart's performance for Harvey Dent.

I give this movie a very high recommendation, do not miss it.

Two Days!!

We only have two days till The Dark Knight opens. I have been reading that tickets have been selling like crazy. It's getting really exciting. I ended up buying the soundtrack to the movie yesterday, and it's pretty good. I really like a lot of Hans Zimmer's work, and James Newton Howard also does a good job on the soundtrack as well. I also decided to post the poster of Batman on the Batpod, I thought just showing the Batpod wasn't enough, so here is one with Batman riding it.

There are a lot of really cool Dark Knight posters out there, and yes, this is one of them. I will be back tomorrow with a review for the movie.
